As per title, can these be refurbished to look and work as good as new, or is the chrome too far gone?

Hopefully the pic will load.

The springs look like they are painted, not chrome plated.

The front shock spring looks very rusty and badly pitted.

Not painted as far as I know or can see, just in very poor condition, I took them off my 1100, that has full BMW service history to date (previous owners) I'm surprised that they haven't been changed due to their condition :blast
I just wondered if they are beyond redemption, or has anyone had shocks this bad turned around by a firm??

Can't see any fluid leaking, although that may be coz there's none left in, they're nearly 20 years old, and it's not really my field of expertise, would rather have them done professionally if they can be done :nenau

Recent post http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/421753-what-colour-is-suspension-oil, about £100 per unit. Probably more if springs need blasting and re-coating. There seem to be differing views about whether you can respray springs without paint cracking ,though I've resprayed mine with aerosol paint following advice from a friend who has never had a problem with this method. I used a dremel to grind off the corrosion. Time will tell! I used this method, worked a treat, https://youtu.be/1-WqJJN5Vio

I suggest that those shocks are done, past it, had it.
The cost of overhaul / repair versus the gains obtained is not worth it.

I had my 1150GS shock re-worked by supposedly the best person in Australia - that was an epic fail, two warrenty returns, time not able to use the bike.

Went with Wilbers instead and been great since.

Hay Ewe had got a point... Might be worth biting the bullet and just getting new/nearly new?

But if you bought new springs and got the shocks refurbished it might come in around 250 each? In this case you're best off sending to ABE, unless someone else knows a place that'll service the front shock?

Ive a shock with ABE and they recommended not changing the spring.

Had my 1150 shocks done by ABE and got them to fit a set of Hyperpro springs at the same time ,huge difference in handling and they are still on the bike 2 owners , 5 years and 25,000 miles later
