Are they over priced ?

13K miles on it, now 5600

That's about spot on if the bike is in really mint condition. I know of one that sold for "a lot more" recently and it had low mileage. As posted above if you buy a minty 1150 Adventure with low miles and pay £5,600 to £7,000 then you are financially better off looking at depreciation etc etc. of course all of this is on the basis that you want / like the 1150.

Some too high ... some about right ... few sold "cheap" ... and if they are it's probably for good reason.

Someone (oxo1066) has just listed an 1100GS on ebay .... 1996 , 72K miles (poor photos so can't tell condition) ... but his starting price .... £2499 !!.
Prediction : Zero bids ... come on ... get a grip , by all means put a reserve on it somewhere near to that , but who in their right mind is going to jump in "blind" and bid at that money ?? (I will watch with interest)
I've had a 1998 one for sale on here (not pushed it recently) ... 2 years younger , less miles ++ , and less money ... not even a sniff ... hmm...............

And guess what happened ................. NOT a bid !

relisted at starting price of £2199 ? .... from memory, ... still too high a starting point I reckon !

I advertised my 2002 1150 gs, pretty good condition, 61k miles, loads of receipts and it got to £1850 on two occasions, by 2 separate bidders. I bought it Aug 2012 for £2850 and it was advertised around the same as others across the country for £3000. Its lost over £1200 in 12 months. I only got the bm as they are supposed to hold there value!

Just bought a 98 1100gs for $ 4800 with 19800 miles. I was looking for something that I could maintain myself and take on - Adventures! I figure I will need to rehab some stuff, but it wasn't 20k - I have room. And it's about at the bottom of it's depreciation curve. Guess I will know soon enough if I paid too much, but I'm pretty happy right now

Interesting indeed. Which currency are we talking about here? I'm on the phone and can't check your location as I type!

Thats just under £3000 GBP !

Thats just under £3000 GBP !

That's correct ... which is about as cheap as an R1100GS gets in the states (so far ??) .... I did look for a long time earlier in the year (Plan B or C, to avoid renting !!)

Sorry - Atlanta; US$ Reasonable milage 1100s aren't really thick on the ground here - and it's red, so faster and more expensive;-)

Mines for sale on EBay if anyone's after one, item number 151199238630

Cheers, Carl

I've been debating recently about swapping my 1100GS for an 1150GS. Is it really worth it? The only difference is the year, my 1100 still has lower mileage than some newer bikes out there and I can't afford a 1200 just yet.

My eyebrows arched to the roof when I saw my 1100 can on occasion command more than some 1150 - I wondered if it was can bus related but still its odd. Nostalgia selling do you think?

Anyway, I love mine to bits, but I'm on the casual lookout for a 1150GSA. Not serious just yet, just feeling the water so to speak.

If however you've had a senior moment involving the loss of all your marbles and want to do a straight swap.....:augie

The thing is you'll see bikes advertised at high prices, thats not to say the ever sell at that price.
I've watched several fleabay auctions of 1100/1150 bikes that IMO were overpriced, including one delusional chap who thought his 1100 was worth £4200 in the end non of them sold.

Thnk its up to us buyers to change the market, don't pay overinflated prices for old bikes, I wouldn't pay more than £2000 for an 1100 and £2500 for an early 1150.

WORTH

I believe the key to any purchase irrespective of the number plate is mileage covered and condition, sadly a lot of people are snobs when it comes to vehicles particularly cars and will buy a very high mileage newer car / bike and would not consider an older vehicle no matter what the condition and mileage covered.

You know it was only a few years ago that the older vehicles were being raved about and would have cost a lot of money to buy new. For me if you can find a well preserved older vehicle it will cost a fraction of the latest and greatest and should be a great purchase.

My wife's car was flood damaged on Xmas eve and has been written off, I have just bought her a replacement car a low mileage 02 plate Renault Magane auto for not a lot of money a no brainer as far as I am concerned.
