Oops - sorry - I didn't know you were a wallet. Do you still bother with leathers?

Yep, It's too tall, too expensive, nowhere to ride it in the UK and if you do buy one you've got more money than sense. ;) That's why they're not selling or are they?

I bought one. :thumb

Those who are making the desparaging remarks; have you actually had a PROPER test ride on one? Or are you incapable of taking a proper test ride on one? :P

Reducing the surplus

I had been riding an R1150GS Adventure for a couple of years, enjoying riding off road whenever I could mostly in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany.
The 1150GS was a great bike to travel throughout Europe to and from events; I had changed the front wheel to a 21inch and was just about to change the front suspension before I met Brum Brum in Norway last year on one of the first HP2s out of Sweden.
After seeing Brum Brums HP2 in action on & off road I had no doubt this bike would suit my needs perfectly. I Sold the 1150GS in November placing the first (and only to date) order with Williams BMW Manchester. I will pick up bike next week without any chance for dust to gather
I will feel a great sense of achievement in the ownership of a HP2 but I don’t see it as a trophy.

We all have the option to spend our own money on what we want to seek enjoyment in life. I do not class the HP2 as simply a dirt bike. Yet it is more specialists so will appeal to the minority and not the mass. Even if the price was reduced I would be surprised if they would sell significantly more.
To produce a bike like the HP2 in such limited numbers must be costing more than BMW could every recouped in its sales. Given the warranty, European breakdown cover & off road skills course and massive dealer network I personally feel the bike at £12k is value for money. I even got heated grips thrown in, what a bargain :)

Just how many HP 2's have been sold in the UK ? I know of six including mine.

Vines say they've sold 6/7 including mine. The previous buyer came all the way from Scotland.

If you mean me - then no, I haven't ridden one. No point, as I'm not going to buy one. I've ridden lots off-road though, on far cheaper machines, and there is no way I could justify the dosh for an HP, and I don't have so much dosh that I don't need to justufy it.

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not in anyway saying they're not excellent machines, I'm sure they are. I'm just saying that £12k for an off-roader is not so much steep, as utterly vertical. Which is why they are not exactly selling like hot cakes in the UK. £12k is about 1/2 the national average yearly income isn't it? Off-road biking used to be cheap - still can be if you don't use an HP2!!

Ah no, doesn't matter. Ride it anyway. I've ridden/driven lots of stuff that I had no intention/capability of buying but boy did I get a kick out of it.

I'm not picking out anyone in particular, even I admit that the HP2 is a bit overpriced.

I'm fed up with the threads that knock this bike or that bike. The 1100 owners that take the piss out of 1150's - 1150 owners that knock the 1200's - 650 bike owners that are seen as some sort of second class rider - WTF

I've owned a 650GS Dakar, one of the best bikes I ever owned and I sincerely regret having to sell my 1150GS Adv. it's all horses for courses and depends on what you want to do with the bike you own. As it happens, I don't need a bike that can go round the world twice without refueling :P or carry the contents of my bedroom and kitchen. The HP2 suits me just fine thanks. :D

Personally, I don't give a feck on how many have been sold in the UK or world wide for that matter. I own one and I don't regret buying it. :thumb

Ah well, there you are - you have your sweed screwed on; that's what counts.

I can honestly say that I have never been in the knocking other people's rides brigade, but oddly enough, I quite like reading that stuff - it's usually quite :D amusing.

I would in a flash if only I could get my feet down :tears

I've seen Roy doing the hop skip and jump technique
as some riders on the Paris Dakar do,
though stopping at traffic lights might be a pain :P

Plenty of glorious offroading here in the US, loads of tossers with more money than sense, but they're not selling here either. :nenau

How difficult is it to get a test ride on the HP2 in Britain? BMW dealerships here won't even consider it. :( I'll be in the UK in August, and would very much like to get a test ride on one if possible.

If you're anywhere near Guildford in Surrey, call Mike Andrews 01483 207000. Their demo is now well run in.

As Jeremy said "If you're anywhere near Guildford in Surrey, call Mike Andrews 01483 207000". Mike works for Vines of Guildford and I would be happy to escort you round some of the off-road tracks we use. :)

Roy.

Thanks for the offer Roy, but I plan to visit Wales, Ireland, and Scotland this year. Not sure I'll have time left over to visit England again. Unfortunately BMW dealers in my area tend to do things like the Germans. You have to make an appointment for a test ride, and they won't even consider letting prospective buyers take the HP2 out for a spin. Could be why they haven't managed to sell any.

I think you are going to have a problem if you don't have a UK licence too - for insurance?

You have to have insurance for a test ride? Here the dealership carries insurance against any accidental damage. All the rider has to provide is a driver's license with an up to date motorcycle endorsement.

That's what I mean - but do you have a UK/EU licence - if not, unlikely that the dealers insurers will cover. Have mate with US licence - no dice.

and don't forget the c $2,000 excess if you bin it..........focuses the mind.
