After a long wait me and a mate, who is far better than fixing things, like engines went ahead and adjusted! my valves on my r1150gs(51).
After we thought we cracked it we made it back up, fired it up and........sh*t sounded worse than before.
So apart it can again, and this time we done a double check on it all.
Made it up, fired it up.......and still crap!!!!
Have we done something wrong!.
Followed all of Steptoes instructions from another page here also for another site. But fu**ed if we know.
Any input would be great:beerjug:

Valve adjustment should be followed by a throttle balance. (also check you haven't dislodged any of the cables)

And I'm sure someone will pipe up that it should be noisy - the time to worry is when it's quiet.:P

Just came back from a ride and the bike goes like sh*t off a shovel.
A hell of a lot better throttle response, smoother seems all together improved........but theres still the noise!!!
So went to a bike garage and they had a listen. (We don't have a beemer dealer on Isle of Wight), but they said BMWs are a noisy engine anyways.
Told them what we done and they said sounds like we dont it all correct.
Also said it might be me hearing things!!Meaning as i have never heard the bike any other way I might be imagining things. Surgested i try to find another with the same bike and listen.
they were as good as gold, but couldn't surgest anything else.
SO today, were going to do it all again, for peace of mind.
Bloody bikes eh!!
Also, will get someone to do the trottle "thing" that has been surgested.
More thoughts always reseved.

So long as you have had it at TDC when you done the valves there won't be a problem. My 1200 was noisey after I did the valves but as soon as I did the throttle balance the noise went away

TDC on the compression stroke. otherwise it will be very noisy ;)

Did you need to make big adjustments.Ie,were the valve clearances way out.
Did you disconnect the battery or pull Fuse 5.
Clearances are 0.15mm inlet and 0.3mm exhaust at TDC on compression stroke.
Is it twin or single spark.Did you change or clean spark plugs?.

No, only small adjustments, but on 1 there was quite a tight fit.
No didn't disconnect fuse 5......why would we have to!!!
All clearences are correct, and have now been checked 3 times
Single spark and no didn't change plugs

Sometimes if the ECU loses its brains after disconnecting battery or removing Fuse 5 you need to reset it.Switch ignition on,but do not start bike.
Open to maximum and close throttle 2 or 3 times to reset.Switch ignition off.
