are you happy with your 660?

I like it... glad I bought it... I'm sure if there is a mass problem with something garmin will sort it out.... they usually do even if it take a little time. I would buy it again.

Had my 660 now for over a month, went over to France with early June + using it in the car in UK and im very pleased with it :thumb2

Ohh i did have to convert half my iTunes libary as it seems to only play MP3

Buy it.

These problems are nothing major, just niggles. They'll be rectified soon. No different to recalls/mods/updates to bikes and everything else.

The 660 is OK but I have used a TomTom (in the car) in the past and I found that a lot easier to use, and it seems to have a lot of features and config options that are missing from the Zumo, unless someone can tell me where I can set these options.

Tomtom seemed to display the speed limit on most roads, Zumo displays it a only a few (and quite often the limit displayed is different to the limit in the speed camera database)

On Tomtom you can show or hide all the different categories of POI on the map, Zumo doesn't seem to do this at all.

On Tomtom you can set different sounds for proximity to different POIs eg mobile camera site, fixed camera, average speed check etc (although that may be a 3rd party add-on). Zumo is just beeps.

Tomtom seemed pretty good at working out the best routes and also seemed to know some of the local shortcuts. Zumo seems to send me on major roads all the time. Even when I ignore the instructions and take a shortcut that I know about, Zumo keeps trying to redirect me back onto its original route whereas Tomtom would work out a new best route based on the direction I had already taken.

If i spot a new speed camera I can tap the screen to add it to the Tomtom and later exchange map and camera updates with other users via the PC. No such facility on Zumo.

I bought the Zumo in preference to Tomtom because I wanted bluetooth and MP3, and because the Tomtom mount seems to break easily, but i think Garmin have a lot of catching up to do in many areas.

The POI don't show up on my screen when riding but I know what you mean re some of the criticisms. What I think people have bought Garmin for is the ability to create their own routes on the computer, good way to pass a cold winters night :thumb and as I haven't owned a TT, I can't comment on them but a few mates swear by them.

Be nice if someone could marry both products best features.

Just come back from a punishing 2700 miles in 6 days with my new 660. On three occassions the screen froze and showed horizontal colored lines, not good :censor:. On the restart the maps are very slow to come on line and very slow on scrolling in and out.
I'm hoping these new updates will sort these problems out.
On the upside music and mapping in one unit :JB:likeit and the mounting is far superior to anything tomtom have, the main reason for me buying the 660 in the first place. All in all very pleased apart from the initial niggles.

It's a pile of poo!

Used it in the car today navigating from Canterbury to the Billing Land Rover Show. Not much of a navigational challenge but for the 660 it was. Came over the flyover towards the Dartford Tunnel - Zumo went quite and then displayed 'cannot calculate route' or something similar. Powered off, started again and all well. Until I got near Billing and started getting 'Memory Full' messages. Trying to navigate home I got 'Route Memory Full'.

Oh yes, and it switched itself off randomly a few times.

I've had a few Garmin handhelds for walking and they are great. My TomTom on my PDA has never given me a problem.

I am really disappointed with the 660, I will have to contact Garmin about it because as it is I don't believe it is fit for purpose.

You may bring the unit into test mode by holding (for a few seconds) and then releasing the battery symbol. You will among a lot of things find the battery charge info. Not easily accessable, but it is there:comfort
Got myself one yesterday :) SW version 3.20
I have tried what you are suggesting but doesn't work, nothing appears ?

I don't have a charging indicator on my Zumo 600? What does it look like?

This has been bugging me as I never know if its actually charging...
The only indicator that I have while the 660 is charging is that it is in charge :P 13h later still no indication that the charge is finish :(

...and i still don't know if i should buy one or not
I'd say go for it, all the "youth problems" seems to be solved.
Haven't had the chance to test it on the bike yet, but compare to my Nüvi 350 it's really quite fast. Very good satellite reception even in the cellar of the house :thumb

Good luck with it, it is quite frustrating the fact the bluetooth is shite, but once it's working it's spot on. I had to dig out a really old phone because it's doesn't like the new Nokia's:(

i don't intend using the bluetooth, but i thought i read it will connect to an iphone if i change my mind.

Hi Cookie, I'm also on verge of getting a 660. You say you're not going to use Bluetooth, so what earphone set up will you use ? I use moulded ear plugs at present, which I like, so looking at maybe fitting a speaker in my helmet and going "wired"
Where do get your 660 from , if you don't mind my asking ?

i doubt i will ever use the audio on the 660 at all.

i may miss a few turnings, but i think that's better than having a synthesised voice nagging in my earphones all the time.
i use Ultimate Ear custom monitors connected to an iPod in my pocket for on bike music. this works well for me & the only improvement i can think of would be to have the ipod tracks show up on the zumo display which is not possible.
i have wondered if it's possible to bluetooth the zumo to some kind of adaptor that the UE monitors could plug into, but it's not a priority as i can't see any great use for it.
did i read somewhere that audio bluetooth from a zumo is mono? big prize for stupidity for whoever signed off on that if it's true :blast

actually, i very nearly bought a Nuvi 550 as it didn't have all bluetooth and mp3 options i won't use, but went for the zumo in the end as it wasn't much more money & had a bigger screen + it was a more common model on bikes.

i bought it from amazon. not the cheapest (but there wasn't much in it), i had a fair sized order with them ready to go, so i just tagged the zumo on.

Thanks Cookie -some low volume nagging might be OK for me, as it'll give me someone to shout at if I get lost !
Bluetooth is brilliant technology, but battery time seems to be the weak link. My Nokia syncs via Bluetooth to my Mac, and even works from the garden . So in ear or helmet speaker for me I think .

The Zumo bluetooth is stereo :thumb2
The Autocom -pre 2009 model bluetooth is mono. :(

i.e. if you connect your Zumo to a old model autocom through the bluetooth connection only, you'll be listening to poor quality mono sound. At least now you can have instructions and music hard wired in stereo and phone only BT'd. The new Autocom's are bluetooth stereo.

And WHY can you not adjust the BT audio volume on the Zumo? :nenau

Had mine right from the launch date. Been used extensively in SA in the cage as well as on the Dakar on gravel.
NO PROBLEMS so far.......

Very happy with the unit :augie
