Are you thinking about buying a new bike ,

are you now ;) I fully agree in a shop, small workshop etc, but AJ's is the size of a football pitch with no one in there. I think its taking it a bit far. I'd of put my helmet on or used a mask if asked. they all have screens on their desks. I don't see how making an appointment to look at the bikes takes away the risk? its just the same visit, but at a pre-arranged time? as I say... the place was empty!

Where you at Bournemouth beach the other day looks like the same attitude

I was in the LLoyds BMW and Honda Showrooms in Carlisle last weekend, with no issues, just walked in for a mooch and to get the good lady a new pair of gloves.
They had GS1250's on the showroom floor but didn't pay any attention to whether for sale or sold etc

I have bought and sold a few bikes from Steve Knight there over the years and he is a credit to BMW and just as interested to help even once you have bought the bike which is rare these days.

Are you a total idiot?
Thousands of people on a beach against an empty shop... how is that the same attitude?

I was just pointing out to the chap coming a distance, to book first and not just turn up.... what is it about that you struggle with.

That said, I still don't know why you'd be turned away from and EMPTY shop but you would be allowed in at 10 AM if you make a booking? Does the Virus not transmit if you've pre-booked? :blast

My nearest dealership Cannon in Essex has loads of stock across the range, waiting for a service and MOT got a favourable px price but no movement on new GSA price (he said a bit might be possible), so in the mood rode directly to my local Honda dealership to look at some Africa Twins, again full of stock, due to lack of staff they’d call me back for a detailed chat and test. That was 8 days ago.
I was bemused on their lack of interest on the best part of a £20K sale.
Contacted a BMW dealer in T Wells, again had stock wanted a sale, contacted a Honda dealer in Coulsdon again wanted a sale offering to deliver a new bike and collect old, both deals achievable in 7 days, happy buyer happy seller.
Rode out on my new GSA today, it’s about finding a dealer who wants to engage and follow up on reliable help when you need it, some will go that bit further.

Im waiting to buy my first GS. Was in a position like you just before lockdown. Took a gamble that prices would drop but the market is very bouyant and dealers are extremely busy. In general I would say that customers of BMW are (ahem!) more mature. The buying attitude seems to be "life is too short" at the moment. People have also had holiday money back in their pockets.

Anyway, so my hunch was wrong and I can live with that. I am now waiting to see what deals(if any) come on 1st July as current offers run out on 30th June. I would expect at least a reduction on interest rate as 9.9% rate is absolutely ridiculous at todays rates. There is also much discussion on a cut to VAT rate on the near horizon to stimulate retail.

If there is no move then I will still be biting the bullet. After a test ride my wife and I loved the bike so it will be in my garage one way or the other.

prices in Oz

Here in almost sunny Australia,Bmw are offering large discounts at the moment.$5,500.00 off k1600. $5200.00 off rt $3600.00 off gs.Thats from Bmw ,then the dealer seems to be able to take some off as well.My dealer told me they are running out of stock and are on target this year.Australian dollars quoted.Hope you guys are staying safe over there.

The biggest problem with them is that they’re a bunch of wankers. My wife had a new bike ordered, deposit paid and going to be delivered before the end of March and then we had lockdown. Every time she phoned and asked for an update the person she’d need to speak to wasn’t there and didn’t follow up her request until she sent an email to the head honcho. He initially told her that BMW were back and she’d have her bike in early July and he’d keep her informed. After a couple of weeks with no updates she managed to get hold of him again and he said August at best, I told her to fuck them off because that’s too late to get the bike, get it past the first service and go on holiday. She then had to fight to get her deposit back and while we both understand that Covid-19 has imposed a lot of unexpected difficulties there’s no excuse for not keeping in contact with people who paid a deposit in January and were told in February that they had an expected delivery date and the bike was currently being built.

She’ll almost certainly still be buying a new BMW next spring but it won’t be from them.

Have you tried Reiten Motorrad https://www.reitenmotorrad.co.uk/ .... https://www.facebook.com/groups/247345349246837/.... My new bike came from them and can recommend them :thumb

When my old 1200 hexhead RT went in to Park Lane for a recall (can't remember for what) the bloke serving me was saying he didn't know why BMW were doing a recall on older bikes!

I think Lind are much better than the old SBW business - particularly around service work.

if you have to buy new, PCP, OCD i would leave AD'S alone, buy one a yr old ( save yourself 4k and free farkles + someones took the time and trouble to run it in for you ) and have it serviced by a good independent, ie, Rainbow, Mikeyboy, Steptoe
