Hi All

Looking for a starter for 10. Bike had been laid up for a long while. Spent a lot of time re fettling and replaced fuel pump, new battery etc. Have since ridden it a few times with no problems. Took it out last week and all was going fine until it started spluttering under throttle and then died all together. Tried to restart and nothing, not even a neutral light, no pump prime, nothing. Was just about to call the cavalry when I gave it one last chance (before it got a damn good thrashing) and it fired up fine, ticked over evenly and I managed to get it home.

Tried to take it the other day, ignition worked, pump primed, hit the start button, starter clicked and then no electrics, no neutral light etc. Any ideas on where to start? Am I right in thinking that click would suggest starter relay is OK?

Any pointers received with thanks as always!

Sounds like it could be wiring loom steering head try releasing cable ties around frame at headstock probably find a wire worn through and touching frame

Thanks for the help. It would certainly seem to make sense. Once I get back home and if it ever stop raining I will restart the investigations from there.

Sound like similar symptoms to my 1200GSA 2006 turned out to be a broken ignition switch cable within the loom the cables that feed out of the switch going into the main loom..

I unwound the sheathing to find the cable insulation was damaged, the copper inside had corroded away see the link.

Very simple fix for me once found hopefully yours is the same, fuel tank will have to come off though.

Check the earth connection on the battery is clean, ie give it a sandpapering and then tighten and smear with Vaseline. My pal had exactly the symptoms you describe. Would start, run then stop or not restart. It was just dirty earth connections onto the battery. Cleaned up and no problems since
