On a recent trip to the Picos, I noticed my arse getting sore at about 2pm every day, chaffing from the constant changing gear & rear braking. I didn't get this on the trip down from Aberdeenshire to Plymouth or on the trip home only whilst riding in the Picos.
Has anyone tried the cycling chaffing cremes you can get? Any good? Cheers ;)

Tighter skiddies?

Ventilated saddle cover?

Assos Chamois cream

Best in the business £15-20 a pot ,used it for years whist on the Velo ,works as a good hand cream.

Sweaty arse crack and corduroy ball bag. Get a cool cover. That's why it didn't happen on the way down or home.
Also could have been GMT difference. I'll get me coat 😇

Base layer to wick away sweat and a mesh seat cover for better ventilation.
Also, make sure your arse has been properly moisturised before a trip like you would for a baby wearing nappies.

An Airhawk works for me, I use it all time. I have several and can't do a long ride without one.

Second vote for Assos crème…. used it for years of long distance pedal cycle events. 60 - 90 mile days in the saddle and no chaffing.

I didn't realise ring sting was so prevalent among motorcyclists. I always thought it was the preserve of Vindaloo victims etc.
Each day is a school day.

BTW, do women ever get this condition after a ride up the Picos (on pillion or otherwise). Asking for a friend

I don't get any issues riding a road bike all day, apart from numbness but, off road I wear chamois cycling shorts otherwise I will get a baboons ass!
It'll be from friction between whatever you're wearing and the forward/backward movement from braking/accelerating.
Perhaps your riding trousers are too loose?

Soreness in the buttocks after extended motorcycle rides can stem from several factors:

  • Pressure Points: Continuous contact with the seat can create sensitive areas that lead to discomfort.
  • Poor Posture: Slouching or an incorrect riding position can strain the buttocks.
  • Inadequate Seat Quality: A seat that is too soft or not designed for long rides can exacerbate pain.
  • Lack of Breaks: Riding for long periods without stopping can lead to fatigue and soreness.
  • Perhaps now you will understand why some long distance bikers chose to put a sheep's coat on their riding machines seats.
  • Any excuse for a road side stop, allowing older butt cheeks a wee break. Tea, Coffee, Pictures for forum watchers, etc, etc........but please no images of nasty red butt syndrome, many might be squeamish. :D
