Arse creme

chaffing from the constant changing gear & rear braking

How?

Questions apart: on long distance traveling, I always wear a couple of cycling bibs and they really help on very long days in the saddle. Mine are padded (same that I use when on the pushbike) but I think what really help is the tightness of it all, not the padding.
It helps a lot on the long motorway stretches, where you tend to sit in the same position for longer periods.
I do tend to move a fair bit on the bike on more "enjoyable" roads, and that usually helps a lot with any "sore butt" on its own - so generally no issue there. :)

Worth a try before creams or installing sheepskin and similar stuff (not to my personal liking because, as above, I do move on the bike while riding).

I doubt it is chafing. More likely some sort of dermatitis as a reaction to sweat, heat or microbes such as fungi and bacteria. Keeping skin cool and dry is key. As mentioned above, moisturizer will make the skin more resistant to these effects.

I can't say it's a problem I have encountered when touring, but I always tried to avoid long days in the saddle in hot climates, where possible.

In the absence of AC for bikes, has anyone tried an Indian Motorcycle ClimaCommand Classic Seat ?

On a recent trip to the Picos, I noticed my arse getting sore at about 2pm every day, chaffing from the constant changing gear & rear braking. I didn't get this on the trip down from Aberdeenshire to Plymouth or on the trip home only whilst riding in the Picos.
Why don't you try changing gear with your foot instead?
