I have my 1300 GSA ASA since the start of May and have about 6000 kilometres on it now. The bike has had numerous issues including the manual shift locking up, which was resolved with a "service kit". So since the start of ownership it has had problems with shifting in various forms.
I am now experiencing a delay in ASA mode when the bike moves from one gear to the next, this usually only happens when the bike is under load and I'm accelerating. So much so the bike lurches when changing gear.

I was told the ASA will "learn", however from what I understand the pausing between gears is nothing to do with the learning aspect. It feels like someone fumbling a shift and holding the clutch too long and then letting it out.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Hope you get this sorted. Its not right.

It doesn't learn. I am very happy with ASA, I have had no problems, but it doesn't learn.

Managed to catch it happening, heres one example from today. It's a lot more pronounced the harder you push it, so with over taking etc

I noticed a few jerky changes like that when I test rode an ASA bike. I wondered at the time if it was just one of those quirks that you learn to avoid as you get more used to the bike. Certainly the quick shifter on the non-ASA bikes can be jerky if you're not positive with it for example.

If you've got 6000k on it, I guess you should be used to it by now, so maybe that means it's a fault.

……. It feels like someone fumbling a shift and holding the clutch too long and then letting it out.
That “lurch” looks like a fuelling issue during the upshift sequence?

Guessing here - but is the fuel being cut-off too quickly before the clutch disengages to during the gearchange sequence?

No it's buttery smooth
So, ruling that out - might it point towards the shift change sequence (i.e. fuelling cut-off > auto clutch release > gear upshift > clutch re-engagement > fuel flow re-instated logic…..)?

In other words, software programming?

Another example on the same day. I did have one a couple of months back which was quite violent, on a motorway, didn't plan on trying to recreate it for the camera.

The clonk and lurch is like the clutch isn't disengaging drive fully. I'd be concerned about eventual damage. If it were me, I'd share the videos with the dealer and ask them to investigate and resolve it. Other ASA owners have on the whole, reported very smooth gear changes. So, it suggests a fault.

When I test rode an R1300GS ASA the automated gear shift was very lurchy too, but the manual shift was buttery smooth (with about 0.5s delay between shift lever and gear change). I spoke to the BMW dealership about it when I got back and they seemed to think that was normal behaviour for this first generation of automated gear shift.
