I ordered a new rear tyre for the 1150GS from M&P (I know ,I know)

You know the size - should be 150/70 R17 69H
they have sent 150/60 R17 66H

anyone with advice as to what is differences there will be if I fit this tyre?

I've had Tourances from them at good prices, and fitted too.
Comparable price to Strathearn.

If i remember correctly
the 150 is the width 70 is the height of the tyre from ground to rim or the profile

so a 60 profile will be lower to the ground how this affects handling I'm not too sure but I remember one model of the Yamaha R6 came with a 60 profile front and it made the handling twitch so a common mod was to get a 70 profile front which slowed things down a bit

The numbers in the tire size refer to its width, aspect ratio, and wheel diameter. "205/55R16" means the tire is 205 mm wide, has an aspect ratio (that is, the width divided by the height) of 55%, and fits on a 16" rim.

in theory the difference between a 150/70 and a 150/60 is 15mm in profile height would it make a difference on the back of a gs i dont know but i doubt it but as riding a bike fast is all in your head do you really want any seeds of doubt in there when you are flat out on the twisty s

It'll make it easier to get yer leg over....

Other than that, the gearing will be altered slightly but hardly enough to notice...the revs would be slightly higher for a given speed...but that would give you better acceleration....in theory...

Put it on, you'll be fine...

If you have an accident and the insurance people find the wrong size tyre fitted........

I would send it back. My first bike was a VFR750 with the wrong size rear fitted. It wouldn't lean into corners, no matter how hard I tried. Changed the tyre and it was cured.

Better safe than sorry!

I do understand what aspect ratio is and in principle I agree with you all.

My thoughts more align though with CC (on the ball there Mike,ta), should be no different to using road tyres on cast wheels on GS's.

You do have a point Betty Swollocks and that is why I just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of using a lower profile rear and a standard profile front.
I understand the other way round makes for a twitchy 'dive in' machine -- ooh!.

I used to run a 160/60 (road tyre) on the rear 'spoke' wheel before I changed to alloys, it handled great...
