hi, thanks and agreed, but its 42C here at present and wary of how that may affect the forks when the oil is likely heating up more under stress . want to make sure im putting in the right (or at least best) weight
i do go off road quite a bit, so suspension does get some pounding (just upgraded dead original shocks to 132/142 TFX versions. as son as i get forks done, will be testing them.
When i had to replace my forks, if my memory serves me correctly, the fork legs do not perform any damping duties at all. The bottom of the fork leg is open, there is a small hole about half way up the tube, but i thought that was an air bleed hole.
So as a result, i think the only thing the oil does is lube the bushes in the outer leg, so any oil would probably do.
At one time ATF was the recommended fork oil to use by many bike makers, as already mention it’s generally a 7.5 w. By all means use it, would be curious if you can notice any difference so please report back on how you get on. Have a good trip!
