attempted theft today !

Car park was behind barriers, so yes push away attempt , There is a lengh of armco there but my chain is not long enough.
Buy a longer chain and leave it there overnight and just use whilst at work
Lock it to the Armco whilst at home

As suggested, ask your employers permission to install a ground anchor and chain the bike to that, preferably installed in a convenient position such as close enough to a manned security office or in visibility/under cctv zone coverage.

Fit an alarmed disk lock to the rear disk to match the front roadlock and throw a cover over the bike.

I have a Pragmasis chain in my garage, its really bloody heavy so as stated perhaps leave it on site rather than carry one around.

Our work just painted a load of dedicated motorcycle parking bays.....they are as far away from security as possible on the site, under no cover and no ground anchors

They wonder why no one uses them.

Isn't there another biker you can chat to so you guys can chain bike together (chain to chain)?

When we had a move to a new City office, the landlord had provided (presumably very expensive) security bars for bikermates to chain their awesome steeds to. Did they use them? No, in a word.

The same applies to the expensive anchors put in place by local councils, following demands from bikermates that councils should do more to prevent bike theft. Are they used? No.

About the only group that seems to use pretty decent security, when leaving their transport unattended, is the much derided pushbike merchants. Maybe bikermates should look to bicycle forums for suggestions?

Depending how well you are in with the top bosses.
You could ask if you can put a bike safe in the carpark.
1k is not a lot of outlay for a 10k plus bike.

A lot of these ground anchor, put in a bike safe suggestions, will hinge on who owns the freehold of the parking area and / or manages it on behalf of the freeholder. Unless it’s a private enterprise, along with some fairly understanding owners, the answer is usually a flat “No”. The same often applies to rented flats, whose tenants share a multi-occupancy car park or garage.

It's a sad world we live in today!

Total lack of any fear over getting caught due to the woke nonsense our law enforcement are obliged to adhere to nowadays.

Theft is as old as hills.

In the 80’s it was the theft of car radios and its associated damage. Then it was the theft of alloy wheels. The car industry dealt with the former and the latter, alloys becoming all but common place. Motorbikes were stolen but there was little financial incentive to get involved in it on a wholesale basis. The arrival of the scooter market (driven in large part by Deliveroo and others) and very expensive motorcycles, funded on the never-never, made it worthwhile ‘branching out’ as it were.

In the 90’s and early 2000’s it was gun crime, which was trumpeted to bring about the fall of civilisation. That never happened. Knife crime has simply replaced the vacuum left. In part at least, the rise of the on-line market place, has made it much easier to sell (and of course, buy) stolen items. The same internet fuels the fear (as seen on these pages) that the world is collapsing, when it plainly isn’t.

Lock up your kit * as best you can and enjoy your holidays at home and abroad, just as so many of the trip reports tell us is possible, every day of the year….. and keep an eye on the butter in the fridge.

* That includes the “I was only gone a minute” scenarios. All that proves is that it must take less than a minute to steal a motorcycle.

Had my trendy radio nicked from my Cortina in 1981. Radio was probably worth more than the car.

@Wapping
Richard, now you are sounding like a lawyer, more than an Insurance Wallah!
OP...It sounds as if you have a plan, to engage with the employer/land owner....But if all else fails, just turn-up in a flouro vest, with couple of traffic cones in tow, on a Saturday morrning... Bed the anchor in at a boundary point away from foot traffic, settle it and then go home taking the cones with you. On Monday morning, employ said anchor to its' full purpose.

"Been there since before I started working here, as far as I know..."

Sorry, What does Butter do ????

It was a reply to the oft heard “What security is best….” to which bods reply “I use XYZ and my bike has never been stolen”.

It was simply a vaguely amusing riposte that I had a pound of butter in my fridge and my bike had never been stolen either. From there it took on a life of its own. Never though doubt the power of the pound of butter, not least as it keeps the elephants out of the fridge, too.
