Austin Vince, the true hero of 'alternative' real-around-the-world motorcycling (and husband of the equally heroic - and much better looking - 'adventure' motorcyclist, Lois Price) is a friend and former flatmate.

Anyway, Austin Vince is coming to town to give what should be an amusing (if very irreverent) talk at Steam bar in the City on the 29th March, 2012.
For those that do not know who (or what) Austin is, here is a brief resume, courtesy of wikipedia:

Austin Vince is best known for his long distance adventure motorcycle expeditions: twice round the world as part of the Mondo Enduro and Terra Circa trips.

As well as presenting the Mondo Enduro and co-presenting the Terra Circa TV shows, Austin has also written and presented the Routes series on Discovery Channel. Latterly he played the maths teacher in Channel 4's That'll Teach 'Em and has in the past taught at St.Johns Northwood as a maths teacher.

Vince attended the private Mill Hill boys school in North London then was sponsored through university by the army but became a pacifist while there and had to pay them to get out. After university, Austin returned to Mill Hill as a teacher. He is now a freelance lecturer and film and travel event organiser.

What's worth mentioning is that he and his companions were the first to cross the dreadful Zilov Gap, which Charlie Boringman and that other fellow did not even try to do.... Here's a link to the excellent Mr Vince's website http://www.mondoenduro.com/

Steam bar is very easy to get to from Liverpool Street, Fenchurch Street and London Bridge mainline train stations, Northern, Central and Circle / District Line underground trains and the DLR (Bank, Monument or Tower Hill). Free parking available after 19:00 and there's no shortage of free motorcycle parking. The Swan pub is nearby too, if anyone fancies a pre-dinner tincture or three.

Lloyd's Motor Club will be hosting the event, with a basic entry price of £25including food (drinks extra) with a measure of any surplus proceeds going to charity (11 EOD, the bomb disposal Regiment).

It should be a top evening, for sure, even for anyone who does not ride a bike or has no intention of going around the world next week

Please ping up any interest on this thread and I will PM you details of how to pay to reserve a place.....

This event is advertised elsewhere so I expect that it will sell fairly quickly.

Charlie,

One ticket for me, please

One ticket for 'fast' Phil, please
