Having just become accustomed to my SP3 over here in blightyville - i'm soon to be shipping out to Sydney ( some may already know this :))

What do i buy to use for sydney ? Is it mapsource or cityselect ?
What is Oziexplorer ? is that another company that provides Australian products ?
Where can i buy ? Garmin or over her before i go or wait till i get there ?

and thats just 1 of a million things i'm trying to sort out !!

Phil

There are 2 Garmin mapping products;
Mapsource City Navigator Australia
and
Mapsource Metroguide Australia

CNA is the autorouting product and includes all major cities and highways.
It has quite poor rural coverage. It is 45MB. Current price is AU$390

MGA has identical metropolitain coverage but much better rural coverage.
This product does not auto-route on either the PC or GPSr. It is 49MB. Current price is AU$199

Both products have excellent POI and address find info.

Both products use an unlock code.

A new version of CNA is expected late March/early April which should have better rural coverage.

Previously it was cheaper to buy from the US but currently purchasing in Aus seems cheaper.

GPSoz is a good dealer in Sydney.

Oziexplorer is a PC or PocketPC based moving map product.
It can use commercial or scanned maps. It does not auto-route.

Travroute Co-Pilot is an auto-routing product that runs on a PocketPC. Rural coverage is similar to CNA

Thanks for the info BurnieM - just what i needed
Also a good web site.

Can't wait to get down there !

cheers
Phil

None of this putting your bike away for the winter rubbish down here.

Update;
The new version of CNA is due 16 April. We are expecting about 120 rural towns to be added. Not sure if there will be much in the way of secondary roads added. Cost should be the same.
