I just got back from Intermot, where I talked (more complained) to a person from Garmin who said that the latest firmware for the Zumo will allow one to disable auto-zoom.... now does anyone known where that feature is, as I can't find it.

Thanks.

I believe it's automatic so that when you get nearer to a junction, it zooms in so that it helps negotiate the junction. At least it does on mine. I have noticed though that it works better on some settings than on others. There isn't a method yet to disable it. Not sure why you would want to tho' I find it a great help.

I think also that it's automatic. I would like to be given the option to have it or not. And the dimming fields to do, or not, would be helpfull as well.

The reason is that sometimes it zoom's so close that I'm not able to see where to get while I'm in the junction - mostly on motorways, but I've also had it other places.

It's just a thing I would like to control myself.

So I guess, that person from Garmin just told that it was there to get me to go somewhere else... :mcgun

Have a play with the 3d or 2d detail settings etc. I know I had it set so that it didn't zoom as much as my travelling companion. That meant I was always unsure of which lane at technical junctions but he was much more confident. When we compared settings we noticed the difference. You might then get the definition (or lack of) that you want.:rob

Thanks, will do that.

Try this: set the map display to 2D mode, then zoom in to the max. Now zoom out to whatever level you prefer. I'm fairly sure that this stops the autozoom on my 550 running v4.00. You have to go through this procedure each time the Zumo restarts though.

Let me know if this works for you - I haven't played around enough to be absolutely certain. I choose 150 or 250 yd zoom, which might just be what the Zumo thinks is right in any case....

Think I may be talking b*****ks - tried this with the Zumo in the car, and it still changed zoom levels :blast. Ho hum - another request to Garmin.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the unit remembers the last zoom setting you had.
So to set them you need to drive at a high speed and zoom out to the level that you like. Then slow right down and zoom in to the level that you like. It should remember these two settings for next time you use it.

This is much easier if you are in a car with a passenger. Its not so nice having to zoom when riding, but it can be done if you're really careful.
