Autocom and Shoei XR-1000

Has anyone fitted Autocom to a Shoei XR-1000 with any success? Autocom just say to put the speakers in the right position but that seems to be half in the cheek pad and half out and also conflicting with the chin strap. Any inspirtion welcome before I bounce this thing off the wall!!!!

I tried and tried but no luck, even Autocom say its not a good helmet for there speakers, way too narrow, shame because they are great helmets.

Interesting that despite a series of e-mails Autocom didn't mention this! I have been working at it however and may have found a way round the problem. If so I'll put up a post later

I have the RAID II with a similar Autocom speaker positioning issue.

I resigned myself to positioning my speakers half way covered by the cheek pad and have found that the quality of fit and sound is better than when I could get teh whole speaker where I thought it should be and without such obstruction in my AGV Demon lid.

I missed a trick on routing the cable between the shell and the lining though, and haven't been bothered to re-route, so it comes out between the lining and my head.... no biggy.

I have got my XR-1000 instalation done with the speakers half below the cheek pads, the mic boom on one side and the cable on the other (mic. cable needed extending). There is still a volume issue ie what is OK at low speed is not loud enough at speed and vice versa but having tried a sys 4 helmet, (into which the Autocom fits much better) and had the same problem I think that in-ear monitors are the only way to improve. Eitheir that or slow down to below 70 when I want to hear Mrs. Mixer!!!!!

have you put any miles on it yet? as its the comfort issue taht buged me, I could get them in but it drove me round the bend trying to wear it!.

I had one of the earlier Shoei Z1's, and notice I said had, now have an Arai as I couldn't get them to fit, well not without it feeling like I had 2 nails in my head, most shops I went to for a new lid said that they won't even try and fit them the autocom system to a Shoei. Fits the arai so well I can't feel anything now
Thought that Shoei would have sorted this by now and any speaker system won't fit well

Got a Shoei Z1 now, and the first effort at fitting the headset was agonisingly painful.

Went back to the drawing board, took time to try a few variations and now it is reasonably comfy, though I have had to learn a new way to put the helmet on. It is no longer a case of just pulling it down, but I have to make sure my ears are well tucked in beforehand. Even then a wiggle or two may be needed once in a while to bed things in.

Oddly I had as much initial pain when using an Autocom headset with an Arai RX7. But that helmet did have more room to play around with different locations.

I've only done a few miles, comfort while the helmet is on is very good, I may have to get slimmer cheek pads as the wires on one side and mic. on the other make it tight to pull on and off. Comfort was one of the main reasons I bought it, I had an Arai Giga for 15 years and thought it was time for a change!!!

We both have Shoei Syncrotec's and have Autocom speakers fitted to these OK. They WERE a pain to fit and required a bit of "modification" to the polystyrene around the ears to squeeze the speakers in. (Used a teaspoon to scoop out bits at a time) I didn't like doing that though, as it meant compromising the protection, but figured the speaker itself would be both a "filler" and another compromise..so went for it!!

XR1000 and autocom pro 7

Sorry but I don't understand the problem, maybe I have a funny shaped head and ears.
I fitted the headphones where autocom tell you to fit them and don't have a problem apart from the velcro isn't quite good enough so occassionaly they move. My wife uses double sided sticky tape in her Schubert helmet.
Mike and plug are fitted to the left hand side which is a bit tight and not very neat but everything is tucked away and held in place with insulating tape.
The only difference now is the top of my ears get bent when I put my helmet on so I have to straighten them out with my hand before I do up the strap.

Volume - I was concerned that the ear plugs I use are too quite for the Autocom as it has no volume on the pro 7. Plugs are SNR 37 and I think Autocom recommend a max of SNR 20ish? Volume is fine for music, pillion, 2 way radio, mobile phone and GPS. The later upto about 70 (Motorway plus) then I tend to miss the voice but hear the beep. This is enough to glance down,pick up the next voice message and not miss the exit.

Overall very glad I spent the money and bought the Autocom system.
