Hi all

I'm due to collect my first GSA 1200 on Saturday which I plan to use in place of my car for work as much as possible and wondered if I could get some advice on autocom and two way radio?

I'm having the dealer fit me a Zummo 550 but I'm hanging fire for the new autocom range being launched. When I do get the autocom fitted I need it to work with some form of two way radio but need something with better range than licence free pmr and wondered if anyone has used motorola type (or other brands) commercial spec radios on a UK General Business Licence?

There's a company on ebay offering reconditioned pro stuff that are reasonably priced:

would this type of radio work ok with an autocom?

Alternatively has anyone gone further and installed a full mobile set like this:

Also I saw the tread on the PTT switch mounts from Sonic and wondered that if you install a PTT switch does this have to be used for everything, ie mobile phone, talking to the pillion or just for pmr / two way radio?

Thanks,
Terry

I've just ordered a Wintec A80 radio kit from Intaride - the external aerail is supposed to be very effective. I'll be arriving today so I'll let you know how it performs. You can use this with autocom i'm told, though for now i've only got a 'bike to bike' kit.

I'm also going to try their 'EVO' but waiting for the revised version in June.

I'm not a radio techie, but I dont think that increasing the transmission power has as much effect as good positioning of the antenna.

I've a HK import, 4mw Kenwood TK3107 which when its in the tool tray under my seat, works well up to about 1.5 miles. If I have it attached to the chest strap of my CamelBak, it goes a bit further - maybe 2.5 miles.

Intaride do an antenna relocation kit for their A80 radio, which I think will give you the best options. Tha A80 radio can also be easily modded to give you 4mw of power. Both of these options could run you into trouble with the Home Office/OFCOM so best not do any jobs near them!

There's a good thread explaining it better than I can here.

The PTT switch is for the radio only - stops you inadvertently transmitting everytime you sing in your helmet or talk on the phone etc.

HTH,

Mike
