Hi Guys,

I currently have a Shoei XR1000 helmet and have the autocom with the standard earpieces. I find it unbelievably uncomfortable. After a 3-4 hour ride my ears are so sore I find it painful to put my helmet on even without the speakers in the helmet. I have been thinking about getting the in-ear parts from autocom but was wondering what other users think of these? What happens with the standard bits? do you just chop them off.

Any feedback would be most welcome.

Jimmy.

Strip the speakers down to just the speaker unit itself. Take off the cloth cover and push the speaker out of the oval housing its in. This gives you a substancially smaller unit to put into you helmet

I've also found that by wearing a thin coolmax balaclava this also helps with making my helmet all-day wearable

I dont know about you but whenI had my speakers fitted at the NEC by autocom they hurt my ears instantly.

The guy said they fit a spacer to all Shoei helmets to ge tthe speaker closer to your ear, took mine out - perfect.

Might be worth a look if someone else has fitted them.

(I've got a multitec by the way)

you could

also try making a small recess in the foam lining for the speakers to sit in. A hot spoon makes light work of it normally, obviously lift the outer covering/helmet lining first!

First of all the Multitecs are a different fit to the XR1000's and have got a lot more room for the speakers, as for the spacers they help move the speakers closer to the customers ears but can be taken out if needed. I have never fitted any spacers to any XR1000's as they are a tighter fitting helmet with no recesses for the speakers.

As for the hot spoon you will never do this and you are actually effecting the overall strength of the helmet as the speakers fit into the main inner shell of the helmet which can not be modified at all.

I would suggest trying what Big Nick has mentioned as we normally offer this if we have fitted a XR1000 that is too tight. If this doenst work your only option from there would be in-ear speakers so the only parts you would have fitted from our side would be a wiring loom, mic and a BGNS if a Super Pro was being used. For warranty wise we recommend a new headset loom to be fitted instead of cutting off the standard speakers.
