I've had an Autocom Active Plus setup on my 1200GS with Garmin 550 and Kenwood radio working well for some time. Recently added the Autocom Bluetooth BTM-02A module to connect my phone. I paired the phone with the 550 and then paired the 550 with the BTM-02A module. BTM-02A is connected to the Aux 2 socket.

I can dial from the 550, hear the person answering, but I can not talk(or can not be heard) by the person answering the call using the Autocom headset.

I've seen some other threads on here describing this issue. One mentions a low level of Garmin 550 software, so checked that the 550 is running the correct level. I've checked that the Garmin Bluetooth option of 'Phone Only' is selected.

Having recently joined SERV Wessex(Blood Bikers) and communication via phone is important, so any ideas/suggestions welcome.

From my experiences the Bluetooth needs to be 12 volt powered and on my Super Pro AVI it connects to aux port 1. It should be the same for your system..

Found the following on the Chainspeed site:

Phones and GPS’s via Bluetooth update. 16.02.2011

This only applies to the pre 2009 systems where you want to connect a phone and or GPS via Aux 2.

The Aux 2 automatically mutes the incoming audio which is detrimental to any two way conversation. Therefore using the BTM-O2A is the preferred method of connecting to phones and GPS’s as you cannot get the same result with part 4066 due to the muting function on socket 2

The BTM-O2A comes with two leads in the box.

1) Blue 4 pole jack to a Black 3 pole jack part number BT-201

2) Blue 4 pole jack to a Black 4 pole jack part number BT-202

Also available is part BT-203 at £15.00 available for the Pro-Avi, Active Plus, Easi Plus which is a 3 way lead with a Blue 4 pole jack to a Black 3 pole jack and a Yellow 3 pole jack.

To overcome this muting issue by using a BTM-O2A, You will need to use the appropriate lead with the following instructions

Easi Plus - Connect using BT-203 black into Aux 2. (Does not mute). Yellow into Aux 3 It will be Stereo

Active Plus – Connect using BT-203 black into Aux 1 with link Disabled. Yellow into Aux 2. It will be Stereo

Pro-Avi – Connect using BT-203 black into Aux 1 with link Disabled. Yellow into Aux 2. It will be stereo.

Advanced biker has given a great reply.:thumb2

Aux 1 is the correct socket for the BTM-2. It has the highest priority.

Plug the Zumo into Aux2.

John

Thanks Guys, a great update from Advancedbiker! What a great forum, that's very helpful. I'll have a try tomorrow and with a fair wind I'll get it fixed before my first SERV shift tomorrow night.

I do have the BT-203 but not sure how to use it, now I do.

I do have the BT-203 but not sure how to use it, now I do.

Have you got the sound of the Zumo 550 connected into the Autocom?

If so, it would appear that you can replace that cable connection with the BT-203.

OK Guys, I removed the blue and black cable which came with the BTM-02A, which I used to connect the BTM-02A via Aux2 to the Autocom. Then removed the cable connecting the Zumo to Aux 1 of the Autocom. I then installed the BT-203 cable, blue plug in the BTM-02A, black in Aux1 on Autocom and Yellow in Aux2. The phone now appears to work correctly.

Next thing I noticed was that I could not hear the Zumo, either with GPS or PM3. I went to the Bluetooth page on the Zumo and the Audio button allows you to select "Phone only" or "GPS, and MP3, Phone", "Phone only" was selected. After selecting "GPS, MP3, Phone" I could hear the GPS and MP3 and phone still worked, so it seems the long audio cable I had used to connect the Zumo and Autocom is redundant.

However, as I use ear-plugs with the headset I had generally found the Autocom volume a bit low and had put the audio cable through a Boosteroo amp, which raised the volume a little. Now without the Boosteroo the MP3 volume seems low again and I wonder if there is a way of increasing the output a bit. This is not a big issue as I can leave the long cable and Boosteroo in place for use on long trips where I won't need the phone.

My main issue with the phone connection is now resolved, and over the weekend, so thanks again for the speedy advice and support.

Check your Zumo 550 settings...

For sound....I never have my volume above 40% great sound - Are your helmet speakers in the opitimum place, or have you tried ear plugs...
Anyway looking at my Zumo, have you got the Bluetooth setting to Phone only and not Navigation,MP3, Phone.

You could place the Boostaroo in-line with the Aux 2 socket to get more volume. Starcom appear to have done a clever job with the BTM-02A/BT-203 combination.

Yes I do use earplugs all the time, makes the rattly 1200GS sound almost smooth..

Not concerned at the phone volume cos I'll stop to make calls, and probably set the Garmin to "phone only" for that. It's just for GPS and MP3 volume while riding at speed. With earplugs the Autocom volume is a little weak competing with the general wind noise, even with all volumes on max.

I did have a little play with the Boosteroo in sequence with the Aux2 input but did not get any output. I wonder if anyone has done this successfully?

I also thought of leaving the setting in the Garmin to "Phone only" and reconnect the long Garmin cable to the Aux 2 socket and piggybacked with the BT-203(still in place), but was not sure if this was a good idea. This would allow the use of the Boosteroo for GPS and MP3. Thoughts?

That should work.
