I was reading on the Rideout.com site today that it would seem Autocom have fallen victim to the recession and gone into administration. How this has happened with all the new products that they have and in my opinion being one of if not the best intercom systems on the market I will never know but what a shame.

Sadly because we live in a throw away society every one buys the cheap Chinese rubbish 10 times before spending the money on a good product...

We have all done it! But it is hard when something costs 3 or 10 times as much to justify spending the extra money - which gives a million times better product

Or it could be you can buy most goods for inexpensive prices because of the very fact they are made in China. The Chinese are now the world leaders in manufacturing that is why Western companies choose to have their goods made there. They are cheap and well made.

There will always be the exception to the rule but your statement is sweeping, ill informed xenophobic rubbish.

It's a shame that Autocom have gone to the wall. I have had a couple of their systems in the past but they did come at a premium price.

Over the last few years a few competitors have entered the market with similar quality systems but at much less cost. I also suspect the new kids on the block have totally different business models that focus on internet business whilst cutting staff, stock and premises overheads to the minimum.

Autocom had a very large setup at Warwick and a lot of employees which must have been a huge overhead which was reflected in the cost. It was only a matter of time before the competition started to nibble into their market and it looks as if their management didn't have the foresight to recognise the threat and to do something about it. Their failure to adapt to a changing market and recessionary times is, I think, a reflection of their somewhat arrogant attitude with regard to the competition and their belief that their systems were the best and customers would always be willing to pay a premium price regardless of the economic conditions

Opportunity knocks for Intaride, Starcom etc

oh b*gger.
Bought one a few weeks ago. all singing all dancing SP-A. I appear to be unusual in finding it complete sh*t.
Despite 2 weeks of playing and various calls, I still can't stop the VOX activating at the slightest noise, engine or even my breathing. trying to listen to the ipod is a real pain as it bounces teh volume up and down all the time.
I was going to try for my money back tomorrow... If it hadn't been for their reputation I would have given up on much earlier.
Looking at what I've actually got for the better part of 400 quid, I can't say I feel I got value for money.

Overhead v 'tinternet

I echo the comments earlier about different routes to market. The example I have is from the motorbike show where the Starcom stand was tiny with one bloke on it, and the Autocom one was huge with a raft of staff and totty in attendance.

Have to confes that I bought a Starcom system over my previous Autocom for my GSA, and it's (IMHO) more expandable, cheaper and better call quality. Shame for peeps who work for Autocom, but there are 1000's in the same situation sadly as a result of our magnificent Supreme Leader, not just because of a poor business model.

Well said not so xenophobic white man! :clap

Could it be simply that in the last couple of years of "HALF PRICE UNITS" that the market is saturated?

Given the reliability of these things, it was unlikely the new models would sell on replacement basis as the old ones just works and works.

So for the new ones to sell, the old customers have to dump perfectly good old style systems for the new ones. And there weren't many more bikers being "sold" on the idea of autocom type systems.

Maybe its that simple??
