Autocom 'kit 3' music issue

My 1150gsa came with an autocom kit 3 (active-7-smart unit.) When listening to music from my i-pod nano the volume seams to fluctuate massively and a lot of the time the vocal track isn't coming though my headset. The sound from the sat nav is perfect all the time.
Any suggestions? I-pod works fine stand alone and in the dock in my car.

It could be your VOX level is set a bit too low and wind or engine noise is tripping the mics lowering the music back by 50%.

I've not had the microphone installed, would this cause a similar issue?
