Autocom live

Can anyone please advise on the best live to pick up for my autocom which i have positioned under the seat near the battery on my GS1200.

green and red of the power socket for your live feed and earth direct to the battery, nice and simple and there is no need to worry about the bikes canbus wiring system.

Why not use the other aux socket wire for earth? Is there any advantage in going direct to the battery? I just used both of the aux socket wires and it seems to work fine.

The battery is the cleanest possible earth on the bike and its and nice and easy to get instead of the old 1150's

How do you connect

The green and red wire to the accessory socket? I take it is one wire coloured green and red? How did you cut into it, did you use a Scotchlock connector or bare the wire and solder? What do you suggest as the best way.

I have was told by BMW and Autocom hat the front side light is the best place for your pick up (maybe not the easiest though) for all bikes pre 2005 and the accessory socket for all bike 2005 on. Apparently a few prolems have occured on pre 2005 bike when wired to accessory socket

Green and red is live, brown is earth. I personally strip back the casing and solder the new connection in. then make sure you re-insulate everything

Yep pre 2005 bikes had a problem with the accessory socket, but then your dealer should have at least updated the software that fixed this problem in the last 2 years

If you don't use a BMW GPS, the socket for that is, no doubt unused. Look at the wiring harness to the left of the headstock. You should be a able to find a lump that can be eased out of the cloth tape cover. This is an ignition controlled output so is great for something like an Autocom. It takes a special plug but I found that a bit of solder on about 5mm of the wire ends made pins that fitted into the socket quite well. Them just cover with tape.
