As it says guys and girls

Im impressed with the starcom setup but would love to here other peoples opinion on this one.

And where did you guys install box, and if u have bike to bike where did you install your 2 way radio on your GS12

Autocom is really good. I've never used the Starcom but all reports I've heard are that it's every bit as good but cheaper.

I now use the IntaRide set up. They've just launched the Liberty which looks like it's going to put the cat among the pidgeons...

My unit is mounted on top of the air filter but it's on the 1150 so that doesn't help you at all :) Radio is bike powered and I just pop the radio into my pocket. It's very small (the radio, not my pocket) so it fits nicely and the bike powered socket is a push fit so it's not a pain getting on and off - just one cable to connect.

Hope that helps at least a little bit...

intraride

Just fitting an intraride to my gs adv and seems decent kit.

A question for Schiannini, do you find the it stays dry on top of the air filter as that is where I am putting it. I was wondering if rain might reach it.
Was thinking of putting it in a clear bag to be safe.
Don't suppose you have any pics? thanks in advance. Stuart :thumb

Here's where I got mine ......
PMR radio goes where the toolkit was .....
The velcro stuff is for the Touratech tank bag.

I don't have any pics, but I can take some...

I've not bothered waterproofing it, my bike lives outdoors and has had the occasional pressure wash (very occasional) with no problems.

I can take a pic if you like...

I basically took advice from BTBR and nicked some sticky backed plastic doodahs that you can run a cable tie through...

oh all right I'll take some pics in the morning and post them...

thanks guys for the advice :D :D :D

Peter pan - Thanks for the pic. what do you do about your helmet leads and did you fit a socket somewhere?

:) :) :)

autocom offer

not able to compare with starcom but have recently fitted autocom to my 1100 and wifes Bandit and it is the best one we have tried.

A lot of places are knocking them out at halfprice at the moment. :D

Glad you found it useful. Aparantly that's where the Autocom or Starcom units are supposed to go. There's a flexible rubber strip in that location designed to hold them in place and all I'd done was get polythene bag and cut off both ends to make a short sleeve to keep the Starcom unit a little bit waterproof, not that I think it needs it particularly.....

I've got a short lead coming up at the front of the saddle by my crotch and the pillion lead just pocking out the left hand side of the saddle for the pillion to connect to.

Both our helmets have the long (curly) lead to connect to the bike. I haven't bothered with a socket.

Peter

I've routed the pillion lead onto the Metal Mule frame and the power cable runs through to the back light as marked

Hope these are helpful in some way - even if you do have the 1200

:)

Peter,
Great job, could you please show some more detailed pictures.
Thanks

I'm also using the Starcom Advance. Commuting 130km each day. Fitting gets a bit more elaborate if you want to use a radio, cell phone, MP3, volume control... :D Wires everywhere!
So I opted to fit everything into a Touratech LC tankbag. Front of bag - bulkhead connector going to a BWM socket. Back of bag - volume control & bulkhead for helmet lead. Inside - foam section with cut-outs for Starcom, cell phone, MP3. Everything neat, in place, easy to remove.
And I actually still have space for other goodies in the bag...
The separate volume control is great though. :clap

Hi folks, Firstly apologies for the quality and size of these photo's. It seems that the server restricts me to a mere 120kb per photo so if you need your microscopes don't blame me!

I've attached a series of photos, the first two are of the starcom system mounted at the base of the fuel tank effectively on top of the battery. I've taken out my (poxy) toolkit and placed my Kenwood PMR radio in there (in the polythene bag). The radio works fine tucked under there and has a range of about 200m - not huge but fine as there's only two of us travelling together.

Sitting below the radio out of sight is the Starcom bluetooth unit.
All the wires sitting just in front of the Starcom unit are :
1. Rider to pillion connection (used rarely but just tucked up out of the way)
2. Lead to MP3 player (when not in use)
3. Optimate lead connected directly to the battery

I tend to keep everything together with a velcro strap.

The other two photo's are simply where I have the Starcom headset lead coming out from under the seat. I could have opted for a much smaller lead, the end of which would just poke out from the seat by my groin and had a longer lead from my helmet, but I preferred having a short lead from my helmet and opted to keep the longer lead secured to the bike. There are various cable ties securing the lead wiring to the bikes frame tucked away behind the seat.

Hope this helps! Regards, Peter
