This is really a query for GSRich....just got back from a 3500miles tour including some very heavy rain more of a deluge really, and then more rain later on the return leg
first rain encountered the PTT stopped working, but as the weather returned to hot and sunny it started working again
second lot of rain stopped again but failed to return to working order after dry weather returned...

so, how waterproof are they meant to be, I will need to pull it apart to see if it can be dried out properly, and made to work.... if this works out is it possible to say fill the box with silicon to make it more waterproof in future??

ta very much
:)

Had similar problems myself. As a result, I've started to look into 'the police solution' to PTT. Very neat indeed (have had a look up close). But I'm getting not very far very fast.

yep had a look at the way they mount the button and copied it, but used the autocom button..... don't want to use wd40.....will see how it dries out and then go from there

Exactly the same problem in the Dolomites recently, only mine was shorting the whole system out and cutting power to the radio. Disconnected it and used vox thinking the whole system is due a replacement (old proM1).

Just out of interest the other day in the garage I connected it all back up, and the bugger's working fine:nenau

There is a vent/drainage hole in the bottom of the switch. If it is prone to spray one might be able to protect it - but not seal it up. I am surprised that the unit is not effectively shielded by the GS handguards.
You could always have a word with the factory - ask to speak to Doug and explain the problem.

well the rain was as heavy as I have ever experienced on or off bike....will try the factory contact idea, ta:thumb

ptt

I'm sorry I don't have a gs so this might be a stupid question do you have a pass switch that flashes the highbeam? If you do have you looked at adding a relay to the pass switch that closes the ptt circuit and doing away with the extra button altogether?
