Got my Autocom unit at the NEC Show, I had contacted them beforehand to see if they could fit the speakers in our two Arais whilst we were at the show.
Arrived at the show left the two helmets and returned for them at 5, I should have tried them on but didn`t, when I arrived home at 11.30, Anne & I tried them on.
Bloody painfull putting them on and even worse getting the bloody things back off again.
Has anyone fitted these speakers to Arais before, it looks as if I would have to cut away the polystyrene to put the speaker in without them hurting my ears, and I am concered that it may affect the intergrity of the Helmet.
If anyone has done this could you post pictures as to how you did it.
I don`t want to have to replace the helmets for System 5s just for the Intercom.
If it is going to be a lot of hassle and no guarantee of it working right, it will probably end up on the for sale section.

Thanks in anticipation
Fergus

Yes you need to contour the polystrene to make it comfortable - no way can you ride with even the slightest over pressure on your ears. I have read somewhere that a warm spoon pressed against the polystyrene will work; but I pared mine with a scalpel. Use adhesive Velcro to hold them firmly in place and you'll be happy with the result.

Had no problems fitting Autocom speakers to my Arai Astro J or my wifes Quantam.
The cheek pads come out and there is an area already in the polystyrene, the speakers fit perfectly, you would not know they were there as they are hidden by the lining of the cheek pads. The wires are routed behind the cheek pads, very neat and unobtrusive installation
Certainly no problems with fit of the helmet with the speakers fitted.
Sorry no pictures.
Cheers,
Matt

Same here set fitted in a Quantum F

What one you got, mine fits like a dream, had to buy the Arai as wouldn't fit in the Shoei at all, mines the Astro and as mentioned the cheak pads come oput so easy to fit and comfy without having to trim anything

My Arai Maverick doesn't have any cut outs behind the cheek pads for speakers, so I took the cover off the cheek pads and very carefully carved the "comfort foam" to make provision for them. I worked on the theory that the polystyrene is the important part of the helmet, and if I bodged the job new cheek pads are inexpensive. It took a couple of attempts but now looks as though it was made for it, just make sure you start small and in the right place.

I should have mentioned that my helmet is a Condor without the removable cheek pads, but my wife`s is an astro which has. I think I will try hers first as I can get replacements as you said. If I do mine first and make an arse of it, it`s new lid time.

Hot Spoon

Firegus, You'll need an old desert spoon, the ear depressions are seldom in the right place and placement is critical to the performance of the speakers, take out the cheekpieces in either helmet, they went in so they'll come out, make absolutely sure where you need the speaker to sit and then heat the spoon on the gas stove and melt a pocket for the speaker in the polystyrene, its an easy job.

Just buy a couple of Tour X's the ear pieces fit fab in them + is a top quality comfy lid.....

Thanks

Since it`s p*ssing down up here today and I won`t be going out on the bike, I`ll try the hot spoon trick!
