Autocom speakers in Shoei Hornet (maybe Big Nick)?

Hi

got a new Shoei Hornet and a new Autocom headset but the speakers (as standard) are painful on my ears. I've seen some threads around on modifying the speakers / helmet to make them fit but wondered if anyone has any pictures of how they did it? A picture speaks a thousand words etc. I see how you can get the round speaker out of the holder, but do people go further than that and take off the round plastic bit? And if so, how?

I'm happy to cut away at internal plastic trim as it's not part of the protective design of the helmet (IMHO).

Great you are still aoroind. It's an old Active 7, with a 7 pin standard helmet speaker/ mic combo from Chainspeed. I'm thinking of getting the position right by sticking some velcro in the helmet (and take the pain ) to position for best sound before cutting anything.

Hi Markie,

Well ive got a bit of spare time now sooo here we go.

So on your speakers if you remove the outer foam covers and unpeel the velcro from the back of your speakers to begin with.

Then if you get the speakers in your hand you will then see the speakers are round in oval carriers, if you push the speaker through you can take them out of their carriers which will make them smaller and also slightly thinner. If you do this for both sides in theory you will be left with round speakers with the wires and two carriers you will not really need now.

For the refitting of the speakers I use one of the carriers as a template and cut some fresh velrco to refit on to the back of the speakers. When I cut the velcro I use to go a little bit bigger so a few mm around, the extra space I think helped secure or cover the speaker cable joints and to hold them in place.

I use to then use our foam covers from the open face conversion kits (Part 1256 £2, give Sam at Chainspeed a buzz for these as Im sure hes got loads) to fit over the speakers so the speakers are not sat right against your ears making them more comfortable.

So overal the speakers will be a lot smaller so once refitted they should help your helmet fit a lot better, if not the next thing unfortunately would be in-ear speakers, but when I use to redo the speakers like this most of the problems were sorted.

May just do that... going to try to fit them in my s1 pro and from what I can gather they are a bit tricky to fit earphones in. 'SPose I should go collect it sometime soon.

Well after removing the outer speaker "shell", some open face mic covers and a little trimming the headset is fitted and nice and comfy. A VERY quick test seemed that the volume seemed a bit low, but a real "ride it" test and some mods to the positioning might fix that if there is indeed a problem.
