Hi all, im ordering an Autocom SP-A unit this week from Chainspeed along with the Bluetooth unit and Kenwood radio.

What im after is tips on where to fit everything and what are the best postions for the headset leads etc, i hate seeing cables running on view on a bike so need to keep things hidden as much as possible. Pictures would be great of your installations :thumb

Cheers Ian

I'm not familiar with the newer Autocom models so can't help there, but Sam at Chainspeed has always been more than willing to help with advice over the phone.

Autocom

I have an Autocom fitted to my GSA. I fitted it in the toolbox and like yourself I didn't want any visable cables to invite theft. I removed my front aux power socket and carefully removed the outer plastic cover on the Autocom lead. I got a spare power socket off the web from Powerlet and removed the centre and got the sleeve reamed in a machine shop to take the Autocom lead. I used JB Weld to hold every thing together. Now I just plug in where the aux socket used to be. No "dangly" wires or anything. I have the original socket taped up under the front fairing and it's an easy job to restore all to its original state if necessary. Sorry, I have no photos. I did take photographs when I did the job but suffered a computer crash and that was one folder I hadn't backed up!! I keep the passenger lead under the rear seat as it's rare I need it. I use the front one all the time via the Autocom through my Zumo for listening to music on long trips.

Mike, sounds like a neat installation :thumb2 i only have the power outlet under the seat, i take it the GSA has on up front? is that on the plastic that comes around the headstock area, by the winglets?? I have just fitted some winglets and i see there were holes that would accomadate that size plug.

Ian, the GSA has a blank under the n/s panel to fit an extra aux. socket. It's only a matter of taking the panel off and looking underneath. You can't miss it. A careful bit of drilling and the modified socket is easily installed. Don't know about GS but I'm sure there's one lurking around the front somewhere too. I got the idea from one of the lads on the RT forum before I jumped ship and came over here. he suggested mounting the socket on the other side but I found it more practical for dismounting without unhooking the lead on the n/s.

My 08 GS has a spare CANBUS connector behind/underneath the headlight. Not easy to see. You may want to have another look (with a flashlight, if necessary). You might be in luck.
