I had an Autocom 200 and on my last bike, it was squeased into a separate compartment in my rather small tankbag. This worked well though.

On the GS, there's no room under the seat, (I'm a short arse with a low seat:rolleyes:), and in the BMW tank bag, there's no separate compartment to store the unit.

Soooo, I'm thinking handlebar bag:help

Suggestions:confused:

Cheers

Either:

(a) Where the (useless) tool roll lives

(b) Where the owners' handbook lives

Both work well.

Where the manual is supposed to go. It fits on the bracket a treat with a couple of cable ties. It will fit in the "tool" roll tray, but the tray is an odd shape so it always sits on the p1$$ unless you pack it with foam.

:thumb That's the place. Autocom don't recommend it because:

1. Water runs down the tank, through the gap in front of the seat and onto the unit, I've tucked some waterproof cloth up under the tank cover and draped it over the unit so that it doesn't.

2. You may get noise from the bike's electrics (I did at first) - battery/alternator noise that rises and falls with the revs. Just fiddle about, fix the thing as high up as possible and keep the wiring away from the battery. It works - well, the same unit has done for three years on two different bikes.

Then you can carry a few tools, a tyre pressure gauge and a u-lock under the seat. :D

Same here. :thumb2 I did have it on the tool tray, but moved it recently to its new location as I'd rather make better use of what little space there is under the seat. So far, it's fine and I'll add a plastic cover to help with waterproofness. I did have the wee red supressor box thingy fitted when it was under the seat and it going FUBAR prompted me moving the Autocom unit. Funnily enough, I now don't have any real noise issues at all. :nenau

That's where I put my first one and after torrential rain in Andorra/Spain it died.
Thankfully autocom replaced it. Now it sits in the tool tray as per GS Rich's advice.

I didn't agree with water running down between the tank and seat opinion as I had a tank bag on and that area was quite dry. More the water thrown up from the rear wheel (I had no hugger fitted then) as this area including the battery is quite exposed. The tool tray has a bit of protection at least, I taped up the little hole left by the rubber strap that holds the tools in place.

If you fit it where the handbook goes (behind tank) Autocom recommend that it has the controls pointing down. Fit it the other way and any water finding its way down there will run straight into the sockets. I know this from experience. Fitted with controls down has been fine on my bike for over a year in all weathers, including several nights stood out in the rain.
Good luck!
