Hi

I have a set of BMW auxiliary lights that I would like to fit, they come with a wiring harness and so I am assuming they plug in but am not sure where. I did post yesterday but have inly just worked out how to add photos and so if you don't mind here is the same request again but with the pics now I've worked out how to do it.

Does anyone know where these connectors plug into please; the harness is long enough to reach towards the back of the tank.

Many thanks

Martin

Have you got the switch ? Some have one in a mount just in front of the handlebar mounts, others replace back of lefthand switchgear and is built into the top part.

You'll also need to check on build spec from bmw, who will be able to tell from options code if your bike had lights originally.

The main plug definitely goes under the tank (I discovered this recently when I found out that a replacement loom I had fitted at the dealers left the fuse box under the tank too :blast), but as Tractors says there is also the switch and related wiring and lamp mounts (where are you going to mount them ?).

Topical post! Just today fitted a brand new set to a 2015 r1200rt. The lights and wiring harness you have there look exactly like the RT ones. What you seem to be missing is the switch and bracket that holds the switch in place on the clutch lever mount. Be warned - our installation went smoothly until we tried them out. Didn't work. On referencing the workshop manual instructions it became apparent that the canbus can't see them until a software update is performed by your friendly yet expensive BMW technician.

I photographed my installation. Hope this helps... a bit
You need to remove side panels, tank panels and then the tank. You also need a relay to place under the flap where the Ecuador lives. Bit of a faff but not difficult. The ful lines have valves that stop fuel leaking when you remove them.
The first picture is the before image and the second is after you have plugged everything in.
You don't need a dealer to rob you for updating the Ecu. It worked fine on mine as soon as I started the engine.

Well I suppose a 2015 bike might be different but the last couple of lines on the workshop manual instructions say to update the software after fitting the lights and wiring harness. No mention of flaps, relays or South American countries.

Oops damn spell checker!!!

The manual does say that a dealer needs to program the bike but mine (and others that I know of) have fitted them themselves and they have worked without paying any dealers.

Mine was a 2010 but I would think the wiring is very similar.

Thanks all I will look at this over next day or so and give it a go - I haven't got the switch so I guess that is going to be another purchase!
