Auxiliary oil tank

Thank you good sir. Still trying to decide course of action and also putting together parts list as build progresses. I may miss out on that 10% ouch.
 
I've taken the oil cooler of my bike about 6 years and 6500 miles ago to no ill effect..

That Cynthia bike was an 80 G/S I think, the 80's didn't come with an oil cooler. Probably depends a lot on the conditions and riding style, northern european riding is relatively low temperature. I remember riding in about 35C two up with luggage in gridlocked third world traffic and being seriously worried about the heat building up in engine, the oil cooler was roasting hot and of course if it wasn't there that heat would have had to try and escape through rest of engine along with the heat already pumping out. I'd rather have the cooler but carry the bypass kit just in case it fails
 
Need to vent, maybe somebody can explain. I just received the MAC +2qt. oil sump. It measures total capacity about 2000cc. My stock sump measures about 1300cc. You can see the increased oil capacity is no where near 2qts. I understand the 1991 R100GS has the shallowest oil sump, so over an earlier airhead the difference would be even less. What am I missing?
 
2000cc is 2.1 us quarts but only 1.75 imperial quarts.

Don't forget you will need the short filter stub that screws into the crankcase when you take the cooler off
 
Cooler heads prevailed, cooler staying on. The oil capacity pan vs. pan can't be explained away by using different units. New as advertised +2qt pan is no where near +2 qts. in Imp, US or moon units. But thanks. My heart rate is now below 120bpm and trending down as it has been 1 hr. since measuring.

Having said that, I can live with a paltry 700cc oil increase as a full 2 qt increase would surely put the sump depth into uncomfortable zone, rock crawling wise.
 
Surely with your original sump bolted underneath you will have the 1300cc + the additional 2000cc but you will loose the capacity of the oil cooler and lines. Of course you could use the spacer and keep the cooler..

Is the Mac unit a spacer or complete sump in its own right?
 
The big HPN "spacer" is not meant to be used with a sump, there is supposed to be a over sized plate which bolts to the bottom of the spacer and forms both the "sump" bottom and acts as a guard for the bottom of the motor - with the stock sump guard in place below the stock sump the oil runs about 10 degrees hotter than if it is removed , and HPN must find it beneficial to have the oil a little cooler.

If you go to the Niche Cycle Supply website (its in USA) under category find engine sump, you'll see a +2qt. MAC oil pan. My reading of the attached blurb suggests, in no uncertain terms, if you purchase said item you will be rewarded with a +2qt. oil capacity increase. No if, ands or buts. Am I reading that wrong?

I've never seen a MAC oil pan before.

Neither had I until about 2 minutes ago.

I first saw it on Antons site a few years ago. It's actually solidly built, I have no qualms with it except it doesn't meet stated capacity. I like that the majority of oil is kept in front and the oil pick up is rotated 90 deg. This will help with my lifted and tilted motor. Truthfully +2 qts. is overkill anyway.
