Hi

I know this is old but carnt find the answer doing a search. A couple of years ago Autocom fitted a system to my then new 1200 taking the power from the back of the Auxiliary socket. I then suffered with it constantly cutting out. At the time a number of GS owners were having the same problem with powereing accessories from the socket. BMW's answer was that as it wasn't a BMW accessory it may not work from their socket and they weren't interested anyway. I moved the feed to one of the wires from the diagnostic socket and never had another problem. My question is, is this still a problem (I've ordered a new 1200) or has it been sorted by either BMW or Autocom.

Thanks

Wire it straight to the battery via a fuse...just a shame BMW saw fit to think otherwise:rolleyes:

That could be a bad idea - my autocom will drain the battery as it draws a small amount of current even when not in use.

As per instructions "DO NOT WIRE ONTO THE BATTERY" or it will be flat within a day or two.

But to the original question all of the current GS's are fine the problem has benn solved :)

Thanks for all the speedy replies. Based on these I'll have a go at the socket when my '08 turns up.

Any particular wire I should use on the back of the socket chaps?

I meant wire the power socket straight to the battery via a fuse, not the flippin Autocom, then unplug it:nenau...with the 1150 it's wired to a feed which is live with the ignition on.

Autocom problem

I have a 2006 GS and use an Autocom plugged directly into the aux socket, onced i'd wired on a Euro plug! It works perfectly and having the Auto com in the bum bag of my Rallye II suit makes it easy to disconnect when I get off.

Works for me!

Why make yourself more work where the power sources we recommend have been tried and tested many a time.

On the 1200GS the sockets are nice and easy to get to and the bikes could be fitted within 30mins, wiring in extra fuses and relays makes more work where to be honest its so not needed.

My solution

I fitted a Centech fuse panel under the seat with a feed direct from the battery but with a relay powered from the back of the aux socket (just split the wire insulation and soldered relay wires on).

The result is that everything (Autocom, aux lights, phone charger, gps) is powered direct from the battery but can be left connected as the Centech only provides power when the ignition is on. Also when I want to add anything else I just lift the seat and connect straight to the Centech output bar.
