How far can you travel on a F650GS twin when the fuel light comes on

I reckon a minimum of about 30 miles in my 800GS, might be a bit more on a 650.

Reserve is supposed to be 4 litres. I have filled up soon after the light comes on and I put just over 12 litres in so that is about right. At least 40 miles I reckon. My 650 has a better range than my 1200 and with 4 litres less tank capacity! Great little bike.

I had to laugh, reading the booklet because I couldn't understand why when I filled the tank it still indicated half full.

The on board computer display thingy shows in the region of 40 miles to go when the fuel light illuminates (the F8GS shows the same number when light pops on).

Have "tested" it's accuracy on several occasions, yesterday being one of them, when the count down showed 6 miles to go and I got 15.82ltr into the tank , so seems to be working

I have got over 50 miles without stopping - as soon as "40 miles" flashes up the right hand goes forward and the slow mode is engaged - havn`t managed to run dry yet (Yet!) by using this method.

I'm a little confused by this description.... my r1200gs counts down from 40 miles as described, but my f800gs displays an accumulating total of miles covered since the low fuel warning comes on. I think I've only let it clock up to about 30 miles before refilling. I don't like pushing bikes.

I have read that it should count down but sometimes after a service it gets set to count up, so you can get the clock changed back by BMW if you prefer.

I too have purposely allowed the bike to run right down to a stop and it works to within a couple of miles so very accurate BUT best to get the fuel in when lights on at 40 to go.

I also find that when to fuel reduces after the light the engine slowly starts to run weak maybe due to too much air in the system but once refiled it runs much much better.

I think they changed it. People were giving out because they were running out while the count down was still showing a mile or two. On my 800gsa it goes up and runs out at about 55 miles. JJH

Mine is a 2014 and it too shows miles travelled since the light came on

Cheers chaps, managed 35 miles the other day on the way to work, automated pump at the local garage was out of service

counting downwards was a feature <2010 models (including 2010). Wasn't that reliable for some fokes so BMW changed it and turned it into "miles traveled since hitting reserve". was easier than to deal with the actual problem on some bikes. Depending on speed I'm traveling I can go as far as 70kms with my 800GS. Should be +10kms more on a 650
