Hi

I am going to install some additional lights to my 1100 can anyone please give me some advice on the colour code of the wire to splice to behind the head light that I will use to switch on the new lights.
I want to be able to switch on the new lights when riding with the low beam and therefore have the facility for low beam only, low beam and aux lights,
main beam and aux lights

Thanks in advance

don't panic! install your light bar as per the instructions connect the two wires to your battery as marked, that leaves "the wire to the headlight"

this wire is looking for +12v from your headlight Dip or Main beam

to use the lamps with either dip or main... connect to the dip
to use the lamps with your main only... connect to main

if the wires are dirty/obscured/non original you should easily be able to establish which of the 3 wires on the back of your headlight bulb to use..

the standard headlight bulb is a "H4" this is a twin filament bulb containing both dip and main.. the bulb/connecter has 3 connections dip/main/earth

pull the waterproof rubber gaiter from the back of the headlight connecter, strip a little insulation off your aux-lamp wire and poke it into the back of each of the 3 positions in turn (ignition on)

earth connecter.. nothing happens!

dip connecter.. green light will light on your aux lamp switch, aux lamps will turn on/off at switch:thumb

main connecter.. aux lights will only work when main beam selected on your bike

then attach the aux light wire to the correct headlight wire:thumb this is a low current connection, all it does is trigger the solenoid so no load involved

job done

stand back and admire your enlightenment:D:D:D

IIRC the electrician who fitted mine used the 'sidelight' wire - which was a light blue. but you should check this with a multi meter.

this allows the lights to be switched on/off

with sidelight or dip or main.

best of all worlds IMHO. :thumb2

just to be different - he connected the red 'activation' wire to this afore mentioned blue sidelight as it exits the big wire plug under the front of the tank - stripped back a little insulation then soldered the two together and bound the connection with insulation tape. then tucked the fuse and relay into the gap under the tank thats covered by the front part of the seat - so its a doddle to get at the fuse should it ever 'blow'

Only do it this way if you have a multimeter - or other method of ensuring that a particular wire IS the correct one - on my 1100 it was a pale blue - but you really do need to be very sure before 'stripping/soldering or whatever.
