Auxillary power point

Tried out my air bed pump prior to camping trip only to find it doesn't work!
It very briefly runs before switching off, I'm assuming after scanning the owners book it's due to high current load? (Never had issue with African twin & vstrom)
can anyone confirm this?

The Aux power socket is limited to 5 amps by the Canbus. The only way around it is to run your compressor straight from the battery!

The canbus socket turns off after 5 min unless the engine is running or the ignition is on, its a safety feature to prevent battery drain.

Correct, only way as stated, direct to battery via a fuse.

Esp if it is a double air bed I would have the engine running.

Sorry, not true. The aux socket stays on after you turn the ignition off if, the load is less than 5 amps. The can bus will keep it open

If you plug a phone charger in, the phone will stay on charge.

I run an external socket for an air pump etc but the aux socket is ok for a nav or phone.

So after the ignition is switched off the aux socket is live for ever or an amount of time?

On page 99 of the owner's manual (GSLC - american version ) it is stated:

Operating electrical accessories
You can start using electrical accessories
only when the ignition
is switched on. The accessory
remains operational if the ignition
is subsequently switched off.
Onboard sockets are switched off
approx. 15 minutes after switching
off the ignition to reduce the
strain on the onboard electrical
system.

From what I understood, no matter if the accessory is switched on or off, current will be shut off after some 15 minutes.

Your statement goes against this. Have you actually tried it on your bike ? Is the manual wrong ?

It goes against other GS/GSA's, headstock connector about 1 minute, as for the accessory socket - my auto com stays on for 3-4 minutes, I'm surprised JonnyP's stays on until the battery discharges unless his is wired direct to the battery and not via the canbus.

I'd read that as, it shuts down if, nothing is plugged in.. Mine stays open, if I remove the charger, so no load is present, it will shut down.
