Can somebody please let me know, is the auxillary power socket located near the left footpeg specifically for use when parked, ie blowing up airbeds, tyres etc or can it be used for powering onboard trickery such as gps, ipod etc? The reason I ask that is it would appear to be in an exposed position when plugged in when riding in very wet conditions although I dont know if this would be a problem or not. Cheers!

You can run anything you like from it whether riding or stationary. Only snag being most plugs stick far enough out for your boot to catch. If you plan on using it whilst riding you can get good right angled din plugs. (someone on here sells them, popeye?).

Failing that bmw sell a kit with plug and loom that piggy backs onto the rear of the plug and allows you to fit a din socket on the left side of the beak like you will see on gsa's.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check out the angled din plug, that sounds like what I need.
