Up until yesterday I had been using AVG for 10years or more, however I've recently noticed that Version 8 is causing more and more people more and more problems nearly all of them relating to updating and rebooting after updating.
Even though AVG was working fine on my particular machine I uninstalled it yesterday and replaced it with 'Avast'.
Just getting used to it and found that I could 'merge' the 2 original taskbar icons into one, updating relatively simple and more responsive than AVG, I like the fact I you can run a scan at boot as well, AVG may well have had this facility but if it did it wasn't very obvious.
Any other users out there got any tips or info that may be helpful, I ask as I will also be installing it on my daughters laptops.

Edit: Just to clarify I'm speaking about the 'Free versions' of both AVG and Avast.

Using Avast for a while now and find it so much better than Nortons which was just to heavy and Kaspersky which just ground my pc to a halt.
So a big:thumb2 for Avast from me.

I went the Avast route about 4 years ago.

AVG became annoying as it was giving false positives and their update servers were a right PITA.

I now have Avast on all of the machines I oversee. Even the Russian porn sites my lad keeps visiting cannot defeat it.

Another :thumb for avast, been using it for quite a few years, easy on resources and effective. Have you got program and virus database updates on automatic?

Hate to admit that I too have finally got fed up with the constant failures to update with the AVG free package, and have reluctantly binned it in favour of Avast. Dunno if I feel totally confident or not as yet.........
