Hi Guys

What miles are you lot doing per year?

I picked my GS1200 up on 9th December and I have done 800 miles so far. This puts me in the 10,000 - 12,000 miles per year. Can't decide weather to cut down on bike use or rack up the miles and change when required.

I only said I would do 5000 miles on my original insurance, and have pretty much done 4k since buying the bike in September. Rang Swintons and increased it to 12k without any extra premium (although they did charge £20 for re-issuing the certificate). Not sure what their top end is for high mileage.

So, use the bike!

Just enjoy the thing....as the miles pile on they just get better and better..mines done 33K (a youngster compared to some) and its a much better bike to ride than when it had only a few K.

Mine was new in late July 2006 and I've covered 42,000 miles to date, all for pleasure. Running costs and history at two years old with 36,200 miles are detailed here. As has previously been said just ride and enjoy :thumb

I got my 08 GS in August and have done 12,000Ks (7500 miles), mostly commuting. This will mean 22,500 miles/year if I keep it up, and if I do not have to change jobs due to the recession I expect to.
The main reason that I bought it was do keep for a while, I am sick of selling worn out Jap bikes after 2 years use. I expect the GS to last a while and so far I have not been disappointed.

I do 15k plus a year, although not all on the GS. I just use my bikes as I want and wouldn't for a minute worry about depreciation or the like. Don't forget, not to get stung for extra depreciation on a bike means doing less than 4k a year, which is just silly.

1200 Adveture mileage.

A close friend dropped in to see me last week and he has clocked up 92876 kilometers since he bought it in 2007 and has not had one single bit of trouble. Bikes like the 1200 Adventure are made to be ridden not parked in a garage while you worry about mileage... :rob

April '07 GS - less than 8k miles and ZERO miles from now until whenever because bike is in UK and I'm out in the jungle in Asia! (no, it is not possible to ship bike over, and even if I could, I would get mugged and or shot by the locals for being a smart arse on one of these!)

So - rack some miles up for me please!

From Feb 1st 08, up to today, done just over 18000 miles on two bikes, mixture of commuting and pleasure.... 8000 on a Honda 600, and 10000 on the GS.

Ride it as much as you like

People do worry about putting miles on bikes but I don't go along with the non-riding fetishism bit. Riding more builds skill and enjoyment as well as a nice smug feeling when you see secondhand bikes with 2000 miles on them after 2 years.

Madame B and I do about 12000 miles each per year and have done so for the last five years. She put 16 k on her CBR600 in the first 2 years despite being laid up after a crash for 3 months. The bike, now with 20k on it, is almost valueless for a trade in despie looking immaculate and running perfectly.

We're keeping it for life now and getting her an F800GS to keep it company.

average 5000 on the 1150, had a few years off it due to a small child, so hence its done 13000, but done 14 countrys or so, only use it for long trips etc
i use my fundy on a daily basis, thats done 13000 in 2 years of use

Average mileage for the price guides is around 7000 miles a year. If you do more then the dealer will take lots off when you want to sell it.

Also private buyers are worried about high miles unless it is cheap.
