Average Mileage

and at the bottom of the scale . . .

. . . . after collecting my (used) bike I managed a mere 1800 fun miles in 2007 and a whopping 2300 miles in 2008. You can tell I don't get out much :(

I think my next ride is scheduled for April. One day there's gonna be a nice low mileage 06 bike for sale. Should be nicely loosened up by the time I take my pension. :)

A bought me GS1100 1995 with about 65,000 miles on the clock 8/9 mths ago , now has clocked up to 86,500 miles.

i rode the equivilent of a years of ,ridin to work in 20 days this year .
so its hard to work out my annual millage.
i used to ride around 12,000 to 15,000 a year on my gixer 1100

i owned a bandit 1200, 1997 model from new n before it got smashed up:blast i clocked 37000 miles on it in two years..

hopefully ill get a good 15,000 on the gs this year...thats if the bloody Euro doesnt overtake the pound:rob

I do not ride as much as I should, but also say, ride it is much as possible, there will always be someone who is hapy to buy your bike, regardless of miles, and as said often, these bikes love the mileage, and only come into their own at mileages where other bikes are seeing their 3rd or 4th owners.

Sod the miles, use it.

Mileage doesn't seem to matter as much as condition on GS's. I've done 18000 on the GSA in as many months (half of them on European Jollies) but it doesn't go out much when the salt's on the roads so it stays shiny. My answer was a cheap Aprilia Pegaso from an auction. Cost £1800 with less than 3000 on it 4 years ago. Done 25k on it now in all weathers and its properly shabby, but who cares. At least I'm not stuck in a tin box.

I am a light weight I only average about 7,000 a year, and must admit they are all play miles. :D Gone are the days of me struggling to work on a bike, I now struggle to work in a Land Rover, CHRIST DON'T NO WHICH IS WORSER :blast

I think the mileage issue is ridiculous really.

The whole point of a bike is to use it, enjoy it, and in some circumstances use it to abuse it! :thumb2

It’s hard when it gets to the stage when we are so worried about residuals and re-sale values that we worry about actually using the bike when we can.

I’ve not amassed a huge mileage on my 06 GSA..13,000 miles…as I work away from home a lot. And I don’t ride it in winter, as I think any bike deteriorates too quickly with road salt.

So I prefer to get a winter bike for this time of year…as has been mentioned, condition plays a big part in the trade in value….nobody wants a corroded model…but will consider a ‘high’ mileage example…especially on a GS or GSA.

But I have covered those 13,000 miles on tours and trips…the Balkans, Albania, Switzerland, Bulgaria etc…..and I sort of feel that’s what these bikes are made for! To put the GS in the same bracket as most sports bikes that only come out when the sun is at its hottest between the start of June and the end of August, and only do 2/3,000 miles a year, if that, is ridiculous!!!

That’s not comparing like for like!...these are bikes made for world travel, not for only being brought out when it’s above 30 degrees!

So I say…if you’ve got one…use it!....I certainly would use mine more if circumstances and work commitments allowed it….regardless of the mileage incurred. :thumb
