My 1200GS came with Michelin Anakees, I found I could get 6000 (approx) road legal miles out of a rear but it wasn't up to a lot after 4000 due to flattening off. I tried another one and found the same. Then earlier this year I did a sponsored trip and was fortunate enough to have a pair of Avon Distanzias donated. Out of a rear tyre I had 13,000 miles of stood up over sand, gravel & rocks; Peeing it down through Sweden & most of Norway,
-12oC & snowing at the Nordkap, 30oC in Slovakia and the pegs down both sides round Adenau, (the Nurburg ring was closed due to a rock concert) and those Avon's never gave an inch. They also didn't suffer any flattening off.

I can only speak as I find; "Avon Distanzia's. Fantastic tyres"

I changed my tourance's after 9k but they still had about another 1k left in them I reckon...might give the Avon's a go next time...

Shhh. Don't tell everybody.

We don't want them to become too popular and end up with supply issues like Tourance.

Used the Avon's on my 1150 and found them to be longer lasting, cheaper and grippier than most in the wet. New 1200 arrived last week with Trailwings as O.E. which are OK but will probably try BT020's when the time comes to renew.

Dunno what they've done different with the ones they've shipped to NZ. The originals were Bridgestone Trailwing. Worn out at 8800km. Next was a set of Michelin Anakee. They lasted almost 10,000km. Avon Distanzia next. Rear one was down to the wear marks at 5,400km. The dealer who had recommended them couldn't understand it, so he gave me a new set at trade price. The rear is showing signs of wear at less than 2,000km. Never again Avon Distanzia on my bike. (Unless I get then free.)

Note to the metrically challenged. That was 3,400 miles on a set of tyres. On a 1200GS.

As I have found: "Avon Distanzias. Rubbish tyres."

Never used the Avons myself so not sure if the following applies but, if you fitted H rated instead of Z rated (slightly softer compound) then that may explain the difference in wear rates reported in this thread :nenau
