I may have had a bad experience but don't do it especially if you intend to ride two up fully loaded.

I changed to the Avon's prepared to give them a good test and see how they compared to the "norm" tourances, well following a 2500 miles trip though france. I am back to the Tourance in its EXP form for the time being on the rear at least.

Avon's do have very good turn in the dry and are very responsive in turns and feel they have plenty off grip but thats where it stops. They are quite awful around banding and white lining tracking all to often making for an interesting ride. Oh their mpg performance is good with an average of 48.2 which compares well to the Original Tourance.

In the wet they inspire no convidence at all.

Worst of all is fully loaded performance they are not at all keen on motorway speeds in the heat of the south of france, I suffered a blow out at about 80 mph (yes could happened to any tyre) OK the ultra seal controlled the deflation but the state of the tyre was awful, the heat transfered to the rim was amazing, I did a tyre plug on the hard shoulder but the tyre was in such a poor state that it had to be changed in Orange (many thanks to Touratech Fr)

I think if the tyre wear rate was better the blow out would not have happened . At the time of the blow out the tyre had covered 3000 miles which this type of tyre is not alot.

Well that may be of use to some. Oh yes the Tourance EXP mileage is terrible now averaging 41 mpg.

A couple of points...

I would imagine your mpg figure would be affected more by your right hand, the type of riding you've been doing and the atmospheric conditions at the time than the different brand of "big-trailie tyre" you're running.
I've just got back from a "gentle blast" around Spain, Portugal and France on my Anakees and returned an average of 62mpg... normally (in the UK) I get just over 50mpg. Similarly, my colleague, who was on Distanzas, got the same mpg. Previously, he had been riding Tourances in the UK and "only" got around 50mpg. I'm on a 1200GSA and he's on a 1200GS.
I put it down to being able to ride unhindered by traffic and hotter ambient temperatures as much as anything else. I can't comment on the banding/white-lining characteristics of the Distanzia, but I've much the same with the Anakees, Tourances etc. etc.
Just my 2pth :thumb
