Hi All,
I am looking for a cheap-ish B&B around the Newbury area whilst on route to the ferry.( Trying to save cash for San Miguel)
Any suggestions or am I as well to stop at the Travel-lodge/camping.
I wanted to stop short of the ports pureley on a security basis and Newbury and surrounding area seems like a nice short ride in.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Many Thanks

Which port are you heading to? Newbury is on the way from S Wales to Pompey & Dover. What time is your ferry?

I don't know anywhere in the Newbury area, other than the Bear Hotel in Hungerford but that's not in the cheap category. I do know several places closer to both Dover & Portsmouth.

You mention Travelodge. Have you looked to see if they are doing a £9 or £19 promo on the day you are interested in? How much would your cheap budget extend to? Some people think a £90 a night room is a bit low rent :toungincheek

Hi Wessie,
thanks for your reply.Im Heading for Portsmouth.
Travel lodge are doing some good deals at the moment but I was just a little concerned about bike security when you stay at them.
Just wondered if I could get somewhere for a few of us at a reasonable cost.
£90 is high rent for me so I would be at the other end of the scale.:D
Thanks again and I guess I will be heading towards a travel lodge or similar.

Why don't you google B&B in Newbury? There are literally dozens of B&Bs, pubs that do rooms and Hotels in Newbury and the surrounding towns and villages. Go on use your imagination.

It's only 2.5 to 3 hours from my place in Abergavenny to where my son lives near Havant. I wouldn't bother with a B&B unless I had a very early ferry.

If I had an early ferry then I'd travel down to Portsmouth after 5pm and use one of these:

Travelodge Havant/Rowlands Castle (rural location in posh area) formerly an Innkeepers Lodge. Cost me £9 last time I used it. Harvester next door, decent Indian in Rowlands Castle & 3 other pubs.

One of the 3 Pompey pubs listed here http://www.oldenglishinns.co.uk/find-a-hotel.php

One of the 2 on this map http://www.fullershotels.com/rte.asp?id=3

Sometimes the Best Western hotels have good offers - double room for £49 inc breakfast last time. http://www.bestwestern.co.uk/

I'd say that Newbury is too close to Portsmouth (60 mins plus?) to warrant an overnight stop :hide

There is a Travel Lodge just off the A34 Newbury By-Pass at Tothill Services and there's a Shell petrol station, Macdonalds and Little Chef all on the same site. Security there is fine as there is also an adjacent lorry park. I know people who have stayed there and they said it was fine. You would probably get a group deal too. failing that there is another Travel Lodge at Chievely north of Newbury on the M4 junction 13

Thanks nice 'n' Fat and Wessie for your input,
Difficult to know where is reletiveley safe to stop when you are not from the area .
Your comments are much appreciated and pretty much confirmed my thoughts.

Thanks for your Kind and considered 'Input' Stev E, however I have never been short on imagination...:blagblah:blagblah
