hotels / B+B around Bardonecchia OR Sestriere

Stayed in Pragelato near Sestriere for a few nights last year; mainly to ride the old military roads in the area, well worth a visit if you enjoy off road. Here's a map of the tracks http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=sestriere&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl. Sestriere was a bit quiet in July (Ski resort) but there is plenty of walking etc. The roads in the area are the weekend race tracks for the local Italians, good quality tarmac with lots of twisties. Don't know of any hotels as we were camping but I would recommend the area for a few days.

One of the Military Roads. They are high in the mountains; the 'fog' in the photo is low cloud!:D

we also planning to go on the assietta, was the fenestrelle open?

if u have links for the dirt roads in the area that would be great, i know a few but if there are some more that would be nice

Yes, it was open to motorcycles. They do close the roads on certain days of the week (can't remember which:blast) You can join the Assieta at Depot and carry on all the way to Sestriere then turn round and go back to the junction to join the Fenestrelle, have dinner in Susa then go back and do it all again, a good day out.:thumb2 Useful website http://www.stradadellassietta.it/inglese/ The link I put on my original post has the maps on it, if you zoom in you will pick up all the trails in the area, there are a lot of them but some are dead ends. There is a tourist information in Pragalato (probably Sestriere too) which will give you all the relevant information. It's a popular area for trials/enduro with quite a few events during the year. There is a "Twins" event in July that looks good; if you happen to be there at that time, it might be worth entering. Link here http://www.motogpromagna.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5991 It's in Italian, use a translation programme to read it (Unless you speaka di lingo:D)
