Monday 20 December
We have agreed a reduced flying schedule until 06:00 on Wednesday 22nd December. A maximum one-third of flights are likely to operate during this period, and passengers should anticipate further delays and cancellations in the following days and potentially beyond Christmas Day.
Passengers should not travel to Heathrow without a confirmed booking. If passengers can travel at another time then they should do so.
This limited schedule provides airlines and passengers with more clarity in order to plan which flights are taking off and which are cancelled. We aim to provide passengers with better and more timely information. Airlines are currently updating which flights have been cancelled and the flight information board below shows the latest available flight information. If the flight status shows 'contact airline', the flight will not be operating today. Passengers must not travel to the airport unless they have confirmed that their flight is leaving today – airline contact numbers are available here.
The Government has decided to permit extra flights throughout the night at Heathrow. The northern runway at Heathrow is open and handling a limited number of arrivals and departures. Earlier in the day, we prioritised aircraft that had previously been diverted, in order to bring passengers to Heathrow and get airline crews and aircraft in the right place.
Heathrow Airport was closed over the weekend following a 5in snowfall in around one hour on Saturday. There have been subsequent swings in temperature, to the extent that ice built up around the aircraft parked on the ground. Heathrow is currently using every available member of staff and several hundred additional contractors have been brought in to clear the situation. BAA has also deployed additional staff to provide comfort to passengers in its terminals.
We are sorry for the disruption caused and will reflect carefully on the lessons we can learn and the steps we need to take to better prepare for these periods of poor weather.

oh.....that dont sound good at all......reading between the lines would seem to suggest that a lot of folks are going to be disappointed if they are looking to transit through LHR.:nenau

I am hoping to fly home tomorrow night, in'sh Allah....

What a good idea to keep flying after the curfew at 2300hrs, what will they think of next?

Tell them ya hAve to get back - there's a Fish Dash on !!

Seriously though, heard a guy on the radio this morning who flew into LHR from Dubai on Sat & after numerous buses & trains finally made it home this morning.

At the moment Dublin is at a complete standstill after several inches of snow, mainly since 16.00. I've managed 3km in 33 mins :eek

poor feckers sat in the terminal

they cant cope cos we dont see snow like that that often

theyre wary at spending the dosh on ploughs and stuff and for once theyre right but

they knew it was coming and shoulda been prepared

I swept the driveway at 17:00 (for the 3rd time this aft) as Kev was on way home, by the time he got here at 17:40 there was an inch of snow on the drive:eek:

Swept it again and it's covered again:blast

The roads have been worse today than they were the week before last!!
Not looking good for tomorrow either:(

It's absolute chaos! They are turning people away from entering the terminals as they are now full. Still only one runway in operation, huge numbers of aircraft frozen on stands. :comfort

LHR

Hopefully the curfew in LHR will allow some Longhaul to get in/out , (these always get priority over shorthaul) hopefully this will free up some slots to allow some shorthaul flights to operate. However cancelling the curfew will only help once the weather eases and aircraft can operate.A good downfall of snow will loose any possible advantage that could be gained.

Another problem is the immediate working area around each aircraft not being cleared for staff to load/unload/operate machinery etc.

A total nightmare for people especially at this time of year.

Very tough on people working and people stuck.

One of our guys flew home to Ballymoney early this morning, and my daughter is flying from Freetown to LHR at the mo'. Watching closely....

I hope you had the dinner ready for him as well. The poor lad ... out in the snow. :comfort

I always have dinner ready for him:rob

And his favourite dessert:angel as he always needs mollying after being on a bender with the lads in Essex:augie

Gatwick to Cork operated a few times, could have put people into the overhead bins- they were that many. Could be an option as many DUB and Shannon flts were/are being diverted to Cork anyway.

Bin Ridin; If you wish, PM me your mobile number/her flt date/flt number and I will try to look at it. I am going to Amsterdam in the early am and will have a look when I get back tomorrow. That might be too late for you.
