I’ve finally scraped enough money to get a bike after a short (too feckin long) break.

I’ve acquired a 2006 rt with a slipping clutch . It’s going to be taken to bits and sorted but my question is, what are the little sh1tty jobs that I should be doing while it’s in bits that will save me hassle long term.

It’s on 50k miles

Cheers

I found on my 1150gs that the cause of the slipping clutch was brake fluid seeping past a seal on the clutch slave cylinder and travelling along the actuating rod and then contaminating the plates. You may want to keep an eye out for that while you're in there.

thanks, my plan is new clutch kit, new crank seal, slave cylinder and drive shaft clean/lube.

any other seals/bearings that would benefit while in bits?

Para-lever pivot bearings.

Check all the external metal oil supply lines, especially the alloy crush washers at the block connections. They corrode.

Lot of the advice given is mainly for 1150 models.

Check gearbox for noise in neutral. If it rattles in neutral but goes quiet when clutch lever is pulled to have excess end float (wear) in the gearbox. The "proper" fix is a gearbox rebuild which TBH is wise anyway. Worn bearing seals will allow oil to contaminate the bearing grease leading to bearing failure and more oil on the clutch.

Replace the crank oil seal.

Check for corrosion on the subframe. If needed, you might as well get it sorted while the bike is apart.
Hot zinc metal spray will protect it for ever. Etch prime, normal prime and paint.
