Had a new Anakee placed on the bike last week and for the first time when the guy balanced the wheel he placed a weight on the edge of the rim aswell as in the middle of the wheel.

Is this normal or have I to worry ? I am not sure if it is my imagination but the back wheel feels a bit wobbly at the moment and with the distinct lack of any decent roads I am looking for some encouragement.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Had a new rear tyre fitted last week. The guy commented that it always takes a lot of lead to balance it. None on the side though?

If I'm thinking right, you can get two kinds of imbalance; radial, in line with the spokes, and axial, or side to side. The weights in the centre of the rim (often opposite the valve) take care of the radial, and the weights on the side sort the axial. I got both on my FJ when I had it, but the guy I get tyres from now can't fit the rear wheel on his machine, so 've never bothered with the rear on the GS. He usually does the front, but never had any on the side, and never noticed any 'wobbly' problems with either wheel, save the well documented 'Tourance wearing out' baby tank-slapper.

That IS a lot of lead.

Is he fitting the tyre with the red 'dot' mark next to the valve (which is where it should be IIRC) ?

Bob.
