My 01 R1150 GS often backfires, sometimes its a real big bang and although it doesn't bother me I wondered is it something to be concerned about. Bike has a full remus exhaust and no cat.

Tends to be after shutting throtlle then reopening slightly, often coming downhill.

Any help appreciated

Dont worry about it. They all do that- especially when you have no cat and a noisy exhaust.

A proper blue flame is visible in the dark when it does it.

Do a search on Steptoes cat code plug.A simple wire jumper can change the mapping for the "Y" piece/Remus.

You did check, yes?

apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but the exhaust is sealing properly? Holes in the pipe can cause/exaggerate backfires.

the end can on my Remus pipe has to be shoved well on to the centre pipe section for the slits in the can to be fully covered up and seal properly.

Mine does it - and has done hundreds of times a day for the last 48000 miles - so far not caused any problems apart from upsetting the neighbours.
