Hi,
I asked GunZenBomZ in another thread if he could perhaps assist in the LEGAL backing up of my DVD and Blu-Ray collection ('cus he knows what he is talking about, having done 20Tb of his own! :bow). So here goes:

I have successfully ripped a number of my DVDs to Hard drive.
I use Any-DVD to analyse the DVD and rip to Hard drive, then I use VOBmerge to select the components I want (just the main file, a series of VOB files) and create a single VOB file for playback. I then play them back to my TV via DLNA. So far so good.

I then tried a couple of my Blu-Rays.
I followed the same process, using Any-DVD to analyse and rip the disc to hard drive, creating a series of m2ts files. The main film is usually stored within the largest of these files.
If I then served this file to my TV, I get "Audio Codec not supported", so I suppose my TV cannot recognised the codec used. I did get a very good picture. Fair enough. It may work in the future in a TV software update, or I may need another device (dedicated media player) in between my media server and TV.

I then played back one of the films back on my PC and I get the dreaded Directors narrative played over the top of the film soundtrack.
So I then used txmuxer to "open" the m2ts file to select only the film soundtrack, however whichever audio track or permutation I select, I either get no sound, or the directors narrative over the top.
Therefore, how do you get rid of this flippin' narrative?

Nothing much has changed, all the applications (most) can be got from www.filehippo.com

I would like to SPECIFICALLY point out that you should OWN each film you backup into a digital file (.ISO)

Stealing is not what this document is about. If anything is misunderstood its due to my poor language, anyhow hope it helps]

Cool, right I haven't bought a bluray drive for my computer yet. It's on the mental list of 'advantageous computer upgrades' but having no job & eating is more important.

I can only say your ahead of my curve you bollocks :augie :beerjug: Have a word with these guys http://www.speedlabs.org/forums/index.php always been spot on for me.

it's not legal in the UK, even if you own the original :augie

In that case, its my own personal digital libraries (digitization of ones life) with the remit of my dvd collection. Used in ones own home & privacy to lessen any harm of said product & personal digital data. A convenience rather than criminal act in all aspects.

*Touch wood*

Bluray is still a problem to get to work properly and much of the old software doesnt know what to do with it. I backup all my DVD's purely for the convenience and store them all on my home theatre PC. I dont do bluray puerly because they just take up too much space on a drive and to compress them to me anyway is missing the point. I have done some testing though and DVD Fab HD (free version http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm) works ok if you want to miss stuff out and only have the main movie. DVD clone doesnt work on HD unfortunately. The only other way I have found to work reliably is to copy the disk to ISO then you can use clone drive to mount it and play it with whatever you like.
I take it your playback software cant choose what audio stream you want to hear?

No, it can't choose. It can only play whichever audio stream I insert in the file. The problem I have is that whichever audio stream I choose (or permutation thereof), I either get no sound or the directors narrative on-top.
PS. Of the two Blu-rays I have processed, one plays ok but one has this particular problem.

Not all the copy protection has been cracked yet so it might be thats the problem with one of you disks. Copy it over to an ISO via any DVD in its entirety and mount it like I said above. Download and install http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ and see what happens. You can choose streams in MPC so you can swap about. If it all works properly then there is something wrong with the way your ripping it. If you still have problems then it is copy protection that is giving you grief. What movie title is it by the way?

I've now cracked it. You reminded me that I have DVD-FAB.
The best process is:
Use ANY-DVD to rip the disc (DVD or Blu-Ray) to Hard Drive.
Use DVD FAB to analyse the resulting folder. It then automatically selects the appropriate video and audio stream. Rip to create another vob or m2ts. Play this file on your PC or stream to TV using DLNA.

It would appear that DVD-FAB is better than tsMuxer (which I had been using) at selecting only the appropriate streams.

Thanks to all for assistance.
