Sorry if this has been asked and answered before - I've looked through the threads and cannot find an answer.

I often plan my route, especially longish trips of a few thousand miles, in Mapsource and put a few waypoints in to help. I then upload into my Garmin - no problem - and oft I jolly well go on my trip. Everything works well unless I hit a detour along the route which involves missing out one of my waypoints. The Garmin then recalculates the route but instead of taking me onwards towards the next waypoint it keeps trying to lead me by the nose back towards the waypoint that was missed out. This leaves me with a GPS which is constantly recalulating a route to take me back from where I've just come from. Eventually it works out that I am heading for the next waypoint (thius could be a good 100 miles down the road) and resets itself and starts to follow the route. My question is - is there a quick one touch way to bypass a missed waypoint whilst en route so as to point the unit back onto the route ?

Try stopping the route and then starting it again, obviously not navigating to start, it should pick up on the route where you are heading towards it.

Thanks Adam

I have tried this but my Doris still keeps telling me to go back to my missed waypoint.

Try turning off 'Auto Re-calculate'.

When you go off route the unit will 'ask' to re-calculate, press 'No', then take the shortest way to rejoin your route. (you should be able to see it on the screen by zooming out if necessary)

Thanks Sleepy,

I'll give it a try

Have you tried looking on Zumo Forums?

Twotter

Have just reread your post and realised you meant that there was a specific forum called Zumo Forum which is not part of this site. Sorry, I didn't know that it existed so I will have a look in there.

Thanks

Martin

Is the answer. :thumb2

Also, instead of entering Waypoints, which the device will always try to send you through (as you have told it you definitely want to go thro' that point) you could simply enter Via points instead.

Waypoints are useful for creating 'Must not miss' locations and nothing much else.

Last but not least, if you have your route written down (and a half decent map) most diversion signs mention towns and / or road numbers. You can compare these with your written route plan / map and simply follow the diversion... Turning off the GPS device until you rejoin your original route. It is how everyone navigated before GPS devices, after all.

I always use maps - just use the GPS for town work etc but have it on on long overseas journeys just to give me an idea of exactly where I am.

Thanks for the answers - much appreciated, especially as I can now stop being told off by Doris for going the wrong way. :)
