Bad casting of front wheel hub.

I don't think even land rover wheels are cast as bad as that wheel on a BMW GS water cooled.?

Somebody prove me wrong.!:rob

Seems to me that most points here are valid.. the 'casting' is a bloody rough casting and seems to have missed the machine shop on the way to QC. (rubbish QC)
AND, yes, I too think that the dealer needs to fight for something better from BMW on behalf of their customer.
AND yes, it is bugger all good bitching on this site because nobody will rush over with their lathe to refinish it to avoid embarrassment for BMW.

Maybe this is a good forum to find if ALL are the same or you have an odd one though.
All said........ else you might just as well get a petition together and send it to Bracknell I suppose.

My Defender wheels are great, silver with a black rubber ring around the circumference, five of them as well, i feel blessed!

I'm intrigued, how would you machine that?

Andres

Take the 'flash' off with a small hand held drum linisher (a posh industrial dremmel) stick it in a tumble polisher for a few hours then sandblast it and finish with lacquer perhaps?

That's not machining though is it, it's hand finishing!

Get a sheet of 800 grade wet and dry, cut a 1" wide strip, wrap it loosely round the offending casting (grit side inwards) and glue the ends of the wet and dry together allowing it to dangle, fnar.

Now go for a short ride, 200 miles should do, and voila.... one polished wheel center :thumb2 :augie

why would you bother? it's inside the wheel FFS! only someone with chronic OCD would even look there.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of that thread?
It really was a bit of a classic and really does need a reread.

It is sometimes better for people to think you are an idiot, than comment and prove them correct.

Funny, but ex services are always banging on about taking banter and it seems to be the opposite case on ukgser

The last person on ukgser to throw his toys out of the pram over some "banter" about the bmw jacket he was selling was ex-services.
He'd removed all the labels . Apparently he said it's what ex-service people do, as they are independent and think outside the box. And he said he could take banter.

Ended up he was going to hunt people down and inflict pain. I always wondered if he managed to sell his jacket.

Have you checked outside? It gets dark early up there and Kenny lives fairly close..........

Having driven over a million miles in various cars, I have never had to replace a wheel on any vehicle except my current car (09 Honda Accord). It has 130k miles and is now on it's sixth new wheel (still have two on it which are buckled badly, but I'll be fecked if I'm gonna change them unless I absolutely have 2.
Honda told me the wheels have cracked due to them being run under inflated. Suprisingly the crack is on the inside of the rim and undetectable except for.........yep tyres deflate slowly:blast
The car was 29 grand, so think yourself lucky it's just a bit of pigeon stit on the casting:thumb
